Zander took the quill from her and went to look at the-- SOPHIE BROWN.

What part of HE DIDN'T WANT the pity win, didn't she understand??????

........

What. He was probably giving her the exact reaction she was hoping for. G A H. SOPHIE BROWN. -_______-

Well he couldn't just take the move. Sophie would be all too pleased. And he DIDN'T want the pity win. If he was going to win he was going to do it right or not at all. He wasn't a Slytherin, he didn't just take what was dangled right in his face. He needed to put forth the effort. -______________- So uh, what now? He scratched his head for a second, still trying to decide on his move before turning back to Sophie. And giving her a look. Then back to the parchment.

HA. And then again he turned to Sophie, with a huge goofy grin on his face. "HA!"

...She was definitely rubbing off on him, wasn't she? Sweet Merlin. Two or three years ago, he would've NEVER done something like that - he would've just been flustered, probably, and blushed and laughed and pretended to be mad at her. But here he was, giving her a taste of her own medicine.

She was impressed, honestly.

"I've trained you well," came her smooth reply, the smirk still firmly settled upon her lips, though now there was clear amusement and elation in her eyes, and she playfully and affectionately reached up a hand to ruffle his hair before turning her attention to Tanner at the front of the room.

Arrows of Pythagoras. Sure, Soph knew just a little about this from her textbook readings, so she didn't take too many notes as Tanner explained... but she did take some to set a good example for the other kids, okay? And the brief little activity that followed was simple and straightforward enough, so Soph went ahead to get it done, digging in her bag to get out a PINK inkwell to indicate the special numbers on her parchment in contrast to the ordinary black ink.

Quite an aesthetically pleasing grid, if she did say so herself.
