Beatrice listened to all of the suggestions, nodding from time to time, thoroughly enjoying the sounds of singing and music. Once the last student had spoken, Beatrice waved her wand at the board, and their suggestions popped up.

Now that we have a bit of an understanding,” and she knew her older students might be getting a bit bored, “Let’s do an activity!” She hadn’t planned too much for their first ever lesson together, instead wanting to keep it simple, informative and fun. “I want you to split into groups. Keep your wand on you, and put everything else under the lid of the desk. Now, first and second years I want you over by the front corner, third to fifth years in the middle over there, and sixth and seventh years in the back there.” She waited until they had all moved away from their desks, and she vanished them with a flick of her wand. “Don’t worry, they will be back,” she said quickly, not wanting to freak her students out. Hopefully they all had their wands on them, because she didn’t want to have to un-vanish them just yet. There was now plenty of space for them to practice what they needed.
“I don’t mind if you work in pairs, groups or by yourself for this, whatever works best for you.” She waved her wand at the board, and next to the list of spells, there appeared;

Effect: Change colour and style of target’s hair “Okay, so as you can see there’s a few tasks on the board. I want you all to follow these instructions on the board to practice these spells. Some might be more difficult for some, but that’s okay. We have the year to practice.” Transfiguration was a very difficult topic, after all, and Beatrice was a great believer in practicing to precision.
She walked behind the desk and reached underneath to pull out some small containers. Opening them all, she revealed a container of worms, and mice. It’s okay, they were ventilated containers. “The worms are for Flintifors, and the mice for Vera Verto. There were plenty of mice for them to each have one.” When they were ready they could come and get the items to practice with.
“The next group, I have some small statues of Merlin here,” she pulled them out and placed them on her desk. “Your task is to transform the statues to a rabbit and back, and then into a mushroom and back. You can keep it slightly easier by transforming the statue into a mushroom, or more difficult by transforming the rabbit into a mushroom.” Take their pick!
And finally, her seniors. “You lot, I want you to practice conjugation and human transfiguration at its basic level. First I want you to conjure a flock of birds. Once you’ve successfully done that, I want you to find a partner, or you can work by yourself,” she pulled out some handheld mirrors, “And transform the hair and style of your victim. Oh,” she dramatized a face palm, “I mean partner,” she let out a mischievous smile. It was fun, anyway. “Don’t worry, if you or your partner are unable to untransform the hair, I will be able to.” So none of the ladies would end up with a bad hair day.
“I’ll be floating around, so if anyone needs any help or a partner, just sing out,” literally.
