A curiosity if her interest in the subject would continue. The soft music was nice, though. It nearly reminded her of ballet practice, or her violin, even though she could tell it wasn’t violin. The fact the professor was there was another nearly positive point in her favor, too. “Good day Professor,” she said politely, even as she inclined her head slightly to decline the offer of a bean. She didn’t trust Bertie Bott’s. If it had been sugar quills, though, she’d have taken one.

The message on the board hadn’t gone unnoticed either, as she’d turned to head toward a seat. Apparently she had her choice, too. It didn’t bother her one bit, and she went for a seat partway down the circle from the professor’s reserved seat. Close enough she could pay attention, but not close enough that there’d be any misunderstanding over her feelings toward the professor. Those were still under consideration. She’d pulled her quill and some dark green ink out to write on the badge though, while she waited to see who would dare sit by her.

"Hello dear," Beatrice said, greeting her FIRST student to the class. One who declined a bean. Had she ever heard of a student declining a bean? No matter, though. Beatrice watched her write her name on the badge; Brooklyn Andrews. With a nod to herself, she hoped all of these new names would be etched into her memory.

SPOILER!!: Adi

He happily shuffled into the class, humming to himself but stopped doing that when he heard the music playing. CELLO! Adi would recognise the instrument anywhere. And of course he had read the rules for the lesson and those rules made him suer excited to be here!

"Hi, Professor!''
Adi liked calling her Beatrice but this was a class. He needed to keep things formal, yes? He gave the woman a big grin, offered his thanks for the Beans and went off to find a seat. "Heya, Brooklyn!'' He slipped into the seat beside the Snake then proceeded to write his name on the badge:

There! Done! Now it was stuck to his uniform. The Puffer popped the bean into his mouth and promptly made that horrible, eye twitching face. UGH! This was an EXTREMELY sour flavoured bean. BLEH!

And the second student to her first ever class was a face she immediately recognised. "Hello Adi," she greeted with a smile, glad to see him take a bean. She watched out for his reaction from the corner of her eye; delight or disgust? There was no mistaking the eye twitching face, and she couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

SPOILER!!: Paulina

Strawberry. Yuck.

Making a face, she grabbed a maraca. She had read the updated rules, and didn't really feel comfortable with singing. Looked like Adi didn't have that problem, she noticed as she took a seat beside him. "Hey."

Quickly she filled out her name badge:

And another familiar face! "Hello Paulina," Beatrice greeted, and smiled as another bean was taken. There was a face pulled, and Beatrice smiled at the reaction. One just never knew what they would be receiving with the beans. She was even more delighted that the seventh year picked out an instrument from the box.

SPOILER!!: Ava

No matter what happened, she'll try to attend the class unless if it's such a boring one, she'd gonna be happy to skip it.

The Gryffindor firstie could hear the music that white-haired lady Professor B had played before she entered the classroom. She really had such a good taste in music, huh? "Hello, Professor B!" She greeted the Professor lady as she entered the classroom. Yes, she didn't blurt out and accidentally refer her as white-haired lady anymore. She did notice Adi was already there. Well, didn't he ALWAYS come earlier for lesson, huh? "Hello, Adi!" Ava greeted him and decided to take a vacant seat since Adi was already sitting with a grumpy-looked Slytherin girl. And name tag, yeah. She wrote down her name on it.

And a THIRD student she recognised came in. She had remembered the face from the sorting ceremony, and then from the corridor. "Hello Ava," she greeted the first year, then frowned slightly. "What did you do to your arm, dear?" she asked, wondering if that was her wand arm.

SPOILER!!: Owen

Owen's mood? Thrilled, excited, and cheerful as always. He didn't know much about Transfiguration, that as much he already told the wonderful Professor but he was very much willing to learn. They had music! What was that kind of musical instrument? Hmm. He didn't know but he liked it.

And here comes the part he liked most about this lesson...the Professor herself! "Hellooo, Professor B!" Owen BEAMED. Oooooh! Bertie Bott's? He would never say no. So the young Hufflepuff picked a bean from the Prof's bowl and put it in his mouth. He assumed a lil' anticipatory grimace before putting back his beam on. "Strawberry!" Lucky!

With another grin at the Professor, Owen went to find himself a seat, sat down and did what the instructions on the board said.

Can he have another flavoured bean?

And Beatrice just couldn't believe; a FOURTH student she recognised. A fellow Hufflepuff! "Hello Owen, dear," she greeted him with a big smile. Beatrice waited to see what Owen's reaction would be, much like she had for the other students who had taken one. She raised her eyebrows at his slight grimace, hoping he hadn't picked up a SOAP flavour one, but was glad he liked the strawberry one.

What a nice woman.

Aldous then picked a desk and put his bag down after retrieving a quill.

All set!

Beatrice smiled warmly at another first year. She recognised the face from the sorting ceremony, but didn't remember his name. "Hello dear," she greeted him, glad to see he was trusting with the beans. And he hadn't forgotten his manners! "You're welcome." She watched as he wrote his name on the badge; Alodus Armstrong.

She sat down and scribbled out her name 'Charlotte Kettleburn' on the badge, THEN she popped the bean in her mouth.

..............

........................

COUGH.

COUGHCOUGH!

SHE WAS DYING!

BOGEY! IT WAS BOGEY! She flailed around dramatically in her seat and made a series of horrendous death!faces.

GOODBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYE CRUEL WORLD!

A familiar looking first year, Beatrice wasn't sure if she was a Gryffindor or a Racenclaw, walked in and took a bean. AND sang! Beatrice beamed at the first year, "You're moOOoooost welcome," she sang back. Beatrice watched her write Charlotte Kettleburn on her badge, but then... UHHOHH the FACES and the flailing, Beatrice realised she had picked out one of the disgusting flavours. She was internally debating about whether to laugh or pick out a nicer flavour. She went over to offer the girl a different bean, trying not to laugh, when another student walked in...

This year, she was hoping for something different.

As she moved into the class, Marsha grinned at the Professor. Waving she moved up to accept a sweetie from her. Putting it in her mouth as she moved to pick a random seat within the circle she grinned as she got a lemon flavour bean. Niceeee!

Writing ‘Marsha Hanover’ on her name plate, she turned it around so that the Professor could see it from where she was standing and then proceeded to take her things out of her bag that she would need for their lesson today.

Though... was Charlotte okay? She looked like she got a horrible sweetie... Eyeing her she waited to see if she needed to call Professor York over to them.

Beatrice smiled and offered a nod to the lass that walked into the room next. The grin must have meant a pleasant bean, and Beatrice was glad to see. She saw that the girl wrote Marsha Hanover on her badge, and turned it around. Beatrice gave her a nod of thanks.

Good karma.

Before settling on a seat, she snagged one of the Bertie Bott's...since she was FEARLESS like that, and proceeded onward. One in the front, too. No slacking from THIS Ravenclaw...even if she didn't plan to sit this particular NEWT. That wasn't to suggest that whatever tidbits she could gain from the lessons wouldn't be useful in life.

Oh!...and there was a nametag. How cute?!

Attaching it to the front of her robes, Reagan finally popped the bean into her mouth, INDEED daring to chew. Hmmmm, grass. HOW LUCKY WAS SHE? Rea had actually eaten grass before...So, that's how she recognized the flavor. Also, there was absolutely no shame in that, either.

...and she'd read the rules...and she didn't miiiiind singing, no matter how terrible she was at it. "Heeeeeeeeeeello, Professor York."

It was always nice to be greeted by a smile, so Beatrice returned the next students smile with one of her own. Reagan, she saw the lass write on her badge. There wasn't a bad reaction on her face after consuming the bean, so Beatrice went back to greeting others.

There was a important question that had been looming in her head. Did this mean she had to stand by her desk until she got permission to sit down? New professor she was going to assume no then.

Walking into the classroom she walked passed the professor, "Good morning professor. These are for you" Handing over the pan of cinnamon rolls. The seventh year nodded and grabbed a red bean. She wasn't much for Bettie botts or jelly beans in general. She found a better use for the beans years ago, tossing them at the suits of armor.

Moving on she looked at for a seat. Waving to Adi and Paulina as she passed. Deciding to sit next to the little lion cub(Charlotte) who obviously (by the look on her face) had gotten something awful. "Bogy? Here take this one, it might counter act the taste." handing her the bean she picked up. Guessing that her red jelly bean was cinnamon. That's why she did get it. It was the only flavor she would eat, of course. She wrote on her nametag.

Tada. She placed the nametag in front of her.

"Good morning dear," Beatrice greeted the next student. She saw her offer some cinnamon rolls to her, which Beatrice deLIGHTfully accepted, "Oh, well thank you dear that's very lovely of you." Plus the lass accepted a bean! Happy days. Though she didn't actually eat the bean, instead offered it to her classmate, Charlotte. The lass, whose name Beatrice now saw was Cinnamon Bayless.

Transfiguration was on the list today. This was where the fourth year was heading currently as she pushed the strap of her bag back up onto her shoulder as it slid down her arm...yet again. Frustratingy annoying bag it was lately but she loved it.

Stepping into the room her hazel eyes wandered about silently taking everything in for just a second. People were arriving but the room wasn't to full just yet which was a good thing. She'd still be able to get a decent seat. Making her way to a seat she offered a small smile to the Professor, "Hello Professor." She was about to keep going when she was offered a Bertie Botts flavored bean. Normally she'd decline but today she agreed and selected a nice orange one. That one couldn't be to horrible a choice could it? "Thank you Professor." Oh wait... did the new rule about singing and such start now or was that only when asking and answering questions? She wasn't a great singer as her dancing was better but she wasn't about to say that.

With her flavored candy still in her hand she slipped into a seat near the middle and set her bag at her feet after pulling out her self inking quill. Spotting the badge on the desk she simply wrote her name on it like they were supposed to.

Setting down her quill she finally popped the orange bean into her mouth. Chewing slowly she grinned a little bit. Not bad it was safe, just a simple orange. Lucky her.

And there was the next student, who Beatrice noticed seemed to be taking in her surroundings. Beatrice nodded, replying "Hello dear, you're welcome" and was happy to see her accept a bean. Beatrice saw that her name was Hady Lynch, who grinned after putting the bean in her mouth. Another success!

"Um, where are the drums and maracas, Miss?" He popped his green bean into his mouth (it was green apple, fortunately) and waited for an answer.

...was that the voice of his BFF CHARLOTTE KETTLEBURN already inside?! HUZZAH.

Another first year, a Ravenclaw, entered the room and accepted a bean. "Hello dear," she said to him, just before he asked a question about the instruments. Huh, so this lad wasn't into singing? Shame, shame. Beatrice pointed to the box of musical instruments at the edge of her desk. "Take your pick," she said, eager to hear all of the sounds in a moment.

"Gee thanks Professor!" He said with a wide dimpled grin.

Candy on the first day? Why couldn't all their classes start like this? He'd be more likely to keep showing up to certain other ones if that was the case.

His quill and notepad floated closer in anticipation of his reaction to the bean and scribbled away madly when he began sputtering and choking on his way to his seat. WHY anyone chose to make rotten fish flavoured candy was BEYOND him. Could he take back his 'thanks'? He no longer meant it, not with the way his tongue was begging to be ripped from his mouth. "Can we just have jelly slugs next time?" Please? It was safer for first impressions and he liked them.

Blaise took a seat closer to the middle of the room, deciding he needed to be able to SEE and hear but didn't wanna be so close that the Professor would immediately notice how sketchy his wand was. Name scribbled time.

Now about those instruments...cause....Blaise....wasn't about THAT life anymore. He'd thought the end of Wizarding Prep was the end of all forced music and other performing arts his mum had forced him into. This couldn't be happening.

AND another first year came through the door, AND accepted a bean! "Most welcome, dear," she responded to his thanks. She noticed his quill and notepad scribbling away and wondered to herself what he was writing. Or, really, what the quill was writing. But then she heard the splutters and the choking, "Are you okay dear? What flavour did you get?" she asked, trying to keep a straight face. Can they just have jelly slugs next time? Beatrice chuckled, "I'll see what I can do."

"I love your hair." Wait. Wasn't she supposed to be singing? Or was that only for asking questions? "I meeeeaaan i loooooove your haaaaaair," she sang, just in case, her voice coming out in a nonexistent key (not that she noticed). Singing wasn't exactly her number one talent, okay? She leaned over the bowl and inspected her choices. Norah had probably lingered for what would be considered an unnecessary amount of time before choosing a light brown bean from the bowl and heading over to a desk. Bertie Botts beans were very serious business.

She paused in front of the Professor's desk to pick out a harmonica just in case she'd have to sing some more, 'cause making the whole entire class go deaf from her voice wasn't exactly a very nice OR responsible prefect-y thing to do. Norah slid into the seat next to Hady who got a big smile, before pulling her materials out and writing 'NORAH KITTREDGE' on the badge. She popped the bean in her mouth--TOAST! Aw yeah. It was her lucky day.

And in walked a PREFECT. Well, a HUFFLEPUFF prefect. "Hello dear," she greeted the student, "You're welcome." AND a compliment! Well, what a lovely welcome. Beatrice smiled, "Thank you dear," and then couldn't hold the laughter in. She was delighted that the lass sang out the compliment, and had to put the bowl down briefly to offer her a clap. Though she noticed her picking out an instrument. Not everyone was comfortable singing, but Beatrice was happy that she had given it a go.

Too bad he told her his name because he loved messing with people and writing wrong names on this name tags. Oh well. Guess he should be a little mature and write his real name.

Bummer.

If Quigley could see him now. Writing his real name. He probably would not care and just take a nap anyway.

"What's up professor?" he greeted with his eyes slightly squinted. He grabbed one of the beans but didn't ate it. Nope, he didn't trust those kind of candy.

After that, he wrote his name and sat down next to Dante.

"Do you want?" offered with a mischievous smile. Hehe.

Beatrice smiled as the next student walked into the class, but she wasn't at all sure why he was slightly squinting. Did the lad need glasses? Have a headache? And What's up? "Perhaps some clouds. Certainly the sun, somewhere," she said in response, trying to keep a straight face. Alas, she couldn't. With a smile she said "Hello dear," and was glad he took a bean.

"Hello Professor." She said greeting her and picked a bean out of the bowl. She tried to go for ones that may not be pepper or rotten egg. Popping it in her mouth, her face went into a sour look. Lemon. At least it wasn't rotten egg. She was hoping for popcorn flavor because she had managed to get one of those before and it was brillliannnnt.

Heading to a seat, Noelle waved at Owen who wasn't too far away. She grabbed her quill and wrote her name, year, and house on the badge that was provided on the desk. She even managed to make her name look pretty. She almost added a little crown to the N but decided at the last minute not to.

Putting the badge on, she was ready for class.

And another first year came through! "Hello dear," she greeted the lass, delighted that she got a bean. She chuckled at the sour look on her face, wondering what flavour she picked out. She saw the girl's name was Noelle.

Without pricking himself this time.

Well, maybe a little..

Beatrice beamed at the young lad coming through next, who took a bean. "Hello dear," she said, animatedly. Rooney, she read. His expression neither showed delight or disgust, which had her intrigued as to which flavour he had picked.

It ruined them for me." It was a memory that she had tried to erase from her mind.

Continuing on to an empty desk, Janelle sat down. When she saw the name badge on the desk, she instinctively looked at the board for her instructions. Then Janelle wrote her name down, as the directions said.

As Janelle noticed the musical instuments of the Professor's desk, she got up and went to retrieve the maracas. She knew what the instruments were there for and she knew that she would definitely need one. Back to the desk Janelle went and now she just needed to wait for class to begin.

"Hello dear," she greeted the next student coming through. She heard the lass decline a bean and nodded in understanding, "Not to worry, I've had plenty of bad experiences myself." Flavours that remained there even after rinsing it down with chocolate or mint. Most unfortunate. Beatrice saw her name written down; Janelle, who then went to grab maracas, which got a smile from Beatrice.

And speaking of the professor, she was standing towards the front of the classroom offering them sweets! S W E E T S! Phillip LOVED those but he DIDN'T love that smile on the professor lady's face. He furrowed his eyebrows before saying, "Helloooooo, Professor!" Were all of these sweets BAD ones? The ones with foul taste? Could he inspect them first? Or get someone else to try them?

But you know what? He was going to take one ANYWAYS. Because sweets. FREE sweets.

Moving away from her, the first year went to plop himself down on a seat. Name badge? Pulling out a quill, the boy started scribbling down the name he was VERY proud of.

Now that that was done, he had ONE VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: What were they going to do with those instruments up there? Because if it meant playing them, he was going to refuse. No way was he embarrassing himself like THAT.

The next student to join the class had a look of suspicion on his face, which only deepened Beatrice's smile. "Hello dear," she said, delighted to see him take one of the beans. Had he been worried about her intentions with the beans? She saw him write Phillip on the badge.

"Hello, Professor York," Kate said, eyeing the bowl of jelly beans. Hmm... "Okay, why not?" She reached into the bowl and took a jelly bean, promptly popping it into her mouth. pause...pause...pause... "Marshmallow," she reported. "Not bad. Thanks, professor." Although, she had a feeling she had just eaten something that would transfigure her into a coffee table or something...

Kate found a seat and began making her name tag.

Kate Addison

Normal quill ink. Meh.

Kate applied her name tag then sat back to begin the wait for class to get underway.

"Hello dear," Beatrice said to the next student who came through the door. She saw the lass eye the bowl of Bertie Bott's before taking one, and nodded, "Why not indeed!?" she added. Beatrice smiled and nodded to the lass that entered the room. She saw her grab a maraca and head to a desk, writing her name on the badge provided.

SPOILER!!: Henric

Are those musical instruments on the table for us too?"Henric smiled and picked a blue jelly bean from the bowl. Hopefully he wouldn't get the disgusting gooey types. He would keep it for later. No Eating in class was one of the rules right? *sigh* He couldn't remember.

He waved to some of his friends and chose one of the seats available in the classroom. He wrote his name on the badge as instructed:

Once done, he wore it right beside his Mancester United badge. Nice.

And there was another Hufflepuff coming through the door. Beatrice smiled as he came through, "Good day indeed! You're welcome," she said, seeing him grab a bean. She nodded at his question, "Yes, whichever instrument takes your fancy." She saw his name was Henric, and that he was wearing a football badge on his uniform as well.

SPOILER!!: Ethan

The Slytherin opened the door to the classroom, and gave the woman a good wave. “Helloooo, professor.” GRIN. He did sing-song her name, yeah? OF COURSE. He's Hogwarts' local minstrel, did she know? And oh, Bertie Bott’s? Why not? Ethan picked an innocent looking bean and popped it inside his mouth. Ethan squirmed as he crushed the candy with his teeth. “Grass. Coincidental, don’t you think?” Pathways? Grass?

Anyway.

Ethan gave the woman a nod, and took a seat near Brooklyn, giving her elbow a gentle nudge. “Hey there, your highness.” And was that Adi talking to her? Lol. Ethan shook his head at the silliness, took out his quill and wrote down his name on the blank badge, and placed it on his robes.

Ready!

Beatrice couldn't help but chuckle at the seventh year who walked through the door next. "Hello eEeEeEethan," she sang, in a tune. She watched him as he bit into the bean, and smiled at his expression. BUT THEN he started talking about the coincidence of him getting a grass flavoured bean, the reference which was not lost on her. She laughed, and hoped his elbow was healing up.

Once all of the greetings had been made, and Beatrice was sufficiently overwhelmed by all of the new faces and names to be remembered, she picked up her wand and waved it nonchalantly at the door, swinging it closed quietly. Another wave of her wand stopped the cello record, and the room was filled with silence.

She placed the bowl of Bertie Bott’s down on her desk, for rewards or just in case anyone else might like another one, and looked back at the class, taking in all of their faces. On her face she wore a welcoming smile. She had thought about what she might like to teach during her first lesson and had decided, rather easily, that she needed to gauge the knowledge of her students. What did they know already? What were their perceived strengths and weaknesses? Was there a spell they were just dying to learn?

“Hello everyone,” she began, her soft Scottish accent drifting around the classroom. “As you know, I am Beatrice York, your new Transfiguration Professor here at Hogwarts. I thought today we could begin a bit low key, and get to know one another.” She pointed at the badge she wore on her shirt, which said Beatrice York. “So… firstly a little bit about me. I attended here many years ago, and I was sorted into the house of Hufflepuff. I developed a strong love of Transfiguration and when I graduated, I went to one of the Wizarding Universities to further my studies in the practice. Since I graduated from there I’ve been a home tutor for younger witches and wizards. And now…” she clasped her hands together, “I am back to the wonderful Hogwarts to teach you all about Transfiguration. Now, to get things started, I’d like to go around the room and have each of you tell the group, and me, something about Transfiguration. It might be something you have learned, something you wish to learn, something you find easy, or something you find difficult. Something you enjoy or something you dislike about Transfiguration. I want you all to say something, anything, and if you’d like to ask as question as well, please don’t hesitate.”

Beatrice reached into the box of instruments, then sat on the chair of the spare desk she had reserved for herself. She sometimes disliked having that bulky desk in front of her, and she rather preferred being at the same level as her students. “I can start.” She knew Transfiguration wasn’t everyone’s favourite lesson, and just how challenging the practice could be, and how much dedication it often took to learn a new spell. Not wanting her students to be expected to love the subject, she decided to share something she had struggled with as a student. She tapped a basic rhythm on the small drum she held in her hand to call attention.

“For me, something I dislike about the practice of Transfiguration,” though really it was the ONLY thing, and it wasn't even something she particularly disliked about it, “Is the precise nature of the practice. One small slip up, whether it be a very slight imprecision of the incantation or the wand movement, and there could be disastrous results.” Did other students agree with her on that one? Enough talking from her, though. Beatrice nodded towards the closest student on the left of her, to try and get things rolling. “What’s something you can share with us about Transfiguration?” she asked.

Right now, above anything, Beatrice wanted the students to feel comfortable speaking in her class, to her, and to their peers. She wanted them to feel somewhat in control of what they were learning, and she wanted to get a feel of their expectations.

OOC: Class has officially started now, so please don't post you character arriving late unless you want to suffer the wrath of Beatrice! Muahaha
