His father had enough to worry about than go to Diagon Alley to get him a new one. And sure he had another tie in his trunk, but you can't wear one tie all year. Gross.

Austin leaned back in his chair wishing with all his might that they could all just leave. Yes, classes were important in becoming 'great and powerful witches and wizards'. But today was not his day, and all he wanted to do was go back to bed. "And I suppose we are... Mordaunt."

As the new professor introduced themselves, and now they had to write a paragraph? Where was the magic? The hands on? This new professor was not on Austin's good list today.

SPOILER!!: Parchment
Charms add certain properties to animals or objects. I don't really care what charm we learn just so long as we are learning stuff.

Austin knew the answer to the questions that the professor was asking, but to be honest, he was in such a sour mood that he wasn't going to answer any of them. He'd probably be really snide, and rude and that would just lose them house points. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, right?

Yep. Totally ignoring that KID, because obviously, he wasn’t worthy of his attention whatsoever, even if he’s a Ravenclaw. Ethan closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose as this Moore fellow continued to talk with a snarky tone. He thought he asked the fellow beside him nicely about the colour changing charm, but what he got was a response full of attitude. From a YOUNGER student nonetheless.

If he were so smart, he would’ve realized that he’s got his tie in his hands. He should be careful with the next words that will come out of his mouth if he wants his precious tie back safe and unharmed. Also, points? His points? Did he look like he cared? Nope, Ethan doesn’t, so blah blah blah Austin Moore, you can shut up now, thank you very much.

Merlin, what a way to partner up two boys with sour moods, eh?

Naturally Astrid wasn't used to silence, not even the soft sound of quills writing on parchment being the only sound in the background. It was too quiet. But this was a one time thing. How was she to get to know them ALL at least just a little bit? This was a way to get the ball rolling.

Someone sounded in distress. Her eyes scanned the room, landing on the young lioness. Oh? There was a test? "Do not fret, this is not a test. It's just a simple activity. Remember to raise your hand," she said, smiling a small kind smile. No need to interrupt her classmates while they were obviously concentrating.

A great example of raising hands right there. It was a great question, too. She was sure they were all wondering why the funny rules. Why not? "Excellent question, thanks for bringing it up." Brave one, that one. "What is your guess as to why that is a rule, the tie exchange?" She lifted her tie, and grinned a little. "As you can see I have a Ravenclaw tie, and seeing as I am a former Gryffindor it means I have traded as well." And you didn't see her sulking about it. Really, what was wrong with that? It was just an activity, not the end of the world. "It's a great way to interact with your peers, new or familiar, on the first day of class." Would they rather do the old 'stand up and present yourself?' No. That was overly used and boring. Maybe these kids liked boring.

Now. It was time for them to concentrate. They had a few minutes left.

When the ten minutes were over, Astrid waited a bit longer as quills still moved across parchments. After that little moment was done, she returned to her post in front of the desk. "Excellent! You'll be turning those in after the lesson is over." She was quite excited to read them all.

"Moving on, we will begin the term with a charm that is designed to slow or stop a falling object." Her eyes roamed around the classroom, making eye contact, confident the older students knew what charm she was referring to. "What is this specific charm, what do you know about it?" She glanced around, meeting the gaze of a few young ones. Astrid was also confident the question would be answered in a timely manner so first years, or anyone who didn't know this charm, could answer the next question. "How can we use such charm in extreme situations, as well as in our daily lives?"

Moving on. Ethan got his notebook this time, and readied himself to take down notes. As the discussion went on, the new professor had asked about a certain charm…or spell about stopping or slowing down an object from falling. Well, it was a very basic question AND spell, wasn’t it? Even before the answer was given, Ethan already wrote down the words, ‘Arresto Momentum’ on his notebook. Also, there was no point in repeating what the others have already said regarding the spell.
