The first year didn't recognize him from behind, but to be helpful and perhaps move the boy along, he cleared his throat. "Gobbledegook for beginners is surprisingly easy to learn," he offered the boy. "I once greeted a goblin in gobbledegook at Gringotts, and he didn't hit me with his cane that day." So his brief-lived flirtation with learning that language had been a total ~~minor~~ success, in case this boy was stuck on goblins too.

Having just about decided that he would try Mermish first so he could maybe converse with the Merpeople in the lake if he could convince them to come up and talk to him, he was spoken to by someone close by. He turned slightly to respond to the bit of advice and was surprised to see not just the boy but the fire.

"BLEUGHHHHH NO!"

Milo held his book tight to his chest and flung himself against the bookshelf as if the volume was his child and he was protecting it from a baby-snatcher or in this case an angry villager from a Frankenstein's monster hunt. "Why do you have that in here?" He said pointing at the FIRE. This whole place would burn down, didn't he know??
