Was he making sense? Was AJ having any clue what he was saying? It was certainly clear to him that Angel hadn't said anything otherwise the pieces of the picture would have likely been fitting together in his companion's head than it appeared to be. To Benny observing her at least. The older lion found himself absently nodding to her mention of something being not to great in the grand scheme of things since the last time the two of them had seen each other.

What's up?

What was up? Now how did he put this so that he didn't wind up being hexed to all eternity. AJ was Angel's sister and the two of them were close. Benny wasn't exactly sure his status as her friend and Adi's best friend was enough to protect him in the long run.

The question and the squinty eyes directed at him. Yeah...AJ was getting suspecious of something, nearly causing him to flinch at the attention. He didn't, but he did get hit by the tether ball causing it to veer off in the wrong direction. Point to the younger Gryffindor but it wasn't like the game matter all that much anymore. He looked away, a free hand absently rising to rub the back of his neck awkwardly. "Angel and I...um...we broke up on the train."

There...he had said it.

Was it just her or was time standing still? It seemed like Benny was stalling. He seemed to be pretty good at that lately. Bells were going off in her head right now. Then the tetherball actually smacked him which only proved once and for all that something was actually up. No way would a normal Benny get him by a ball that he knew was coming at him.

No words came out of her mouth which was pretty unusual for the brunette. She didn't even flinch when he got hit. Nothing but stares for Adi's best friend. His mouth was opening which meant answers. Or possibly more stalling, but it was better then just standing here in silence.

There was that 'um' again, and this time it was said right after he was talking about him and Angel. This wasn't good. Things were starting to make sense though. She knew he was acting awkward around her, and that was a thing of the past.

Then he spilled the beans.

Angel and Benny were no more. It took her a full minute to fully register what he was saying. This was a really awkward position to be in because Angel was her sister, and Benny was a very close friend. She stood there are stared at him without blinking. "I can't... I never..." WHY? AJ never would have guessed.

Wait a minute. ON THE TRAIN?

He said it happened on the train which would explain the teary eyed Angel. Which meant that Benny had been the one doing the breaking up. Her fists balled up at her sides, and she realized right then that Angel trumped Benny. Sisters before misters and all that other girl power crap. Nobody hurts her sisters. NOBODY. Forgetting for a moment about how much she cared for the boy standing in front of her, she lunged.

It happened before she could even stop herself. A very impulsive young girl she was. AJ was in full tackle mode. She aimed for his knees since he was a lot taller than she was, and put her whole 95 pound body into it. And to think the days of tackling boys were behind her. "HOW COULD YOU BREAK UP WITH HER ON THE TRAIN RIGHT BEFORE TERM?," she said through clenched teeth as she was trying to get the advantage over the situation. That was just the tip of the iceberg though. Benny was in for a interrogation. Although, he didn't have a wand shoved in his trachea so he was already fairing better than Ian.

Benny waited with baited breath after he dropped the news, watching AJ's every move even as the girl seemed to freeze at first in reaction. And then she tried to speak and stumbled over her words which gave him a good idea of how it had affected her. The younger lion wasn't exactly one to get tongue-tied. The wheels appeared to be moving in her mind as the silence returned between them.

The next thing he knew, AJ was throwing herself at his legs and the overall surprise had taken him so off guard that he hadn't the chance to brace himself. So her movements became a full on tackle and he fell to the ground with her on top of him. Followed by a sternly worded question asked through her teeth at him that made Benny apprehensive and app0logetic all at the same time.

"I didn't want to....I wanted to do it privately over the summer...but us getting together never worked." It had been true. With her traveling and his internship, it had been impossible. And if anything it had cemented the thought that maybe they weren't cohesive in their future plans. "And I didn't feel right doing it in a letter." Breaking up was something that had to be done face to face. "And when we ran into each other on the train I couldn't just pretend everything was fine."
