It was easy to get carried away when looking through books, and presented with so many options and strange titles and even stranger author names, Daxton had apparently become less aware of his surroundings. He got a horrible fright when suddenly someone else, crashed right into him.
If he hadn't been so taken aback and intent on getting the other boy away from him, Daxton might have questioned exactly why it was that everyone in this school seemed so oblivious to the concept of personal space, or were so intent on crashing into people.
As it happened, the boy before him took all his attention. That hit with the book hadn't actually hurt at all, though it ought to have, but ultimately Daxton was angered at the idiocy of the other boy that had bought on the unwelcome collision. He grabbed the book out of the boy's hands and thumped him with it on the upper arm.
... Yes. Now he was okay. Now they were even.
Barely.
There was a THWACK.
Brian blinked at the boy in front of him uncomprehendingly. What? Just? Happened? His arm was throbbing and there was no book in his hands. And all that was going through his head was he fact that Wizards had only two wars, both started by the same person. But the way this kid was staring at hi was like there was going to be a third wizarding war because this kid looked really angry and Brian didn't understand ANYTHING about why he was in such a mood in the morning.
Does. Not. Compute.
Rubbing his arm gingerly - because that was a VERY heavy book there - he inclined his head.
"That was," he said, struggling for words. They were difficult so early in the morning.
"Unnecessary?" Because he didn't do it on purpose? He just wasn't expecting anyone here this early on a weekend except Mister Kittredge. And most people already knew he walked around when he studied. Also, that was painful.
