Getting back into the swing of things with classes and seeing her favorite professors and seeing her friends again was VERY exciting. She had been expecting a lot of it to be sad because LAST FIRST DAY OF CLASSES, but she'd mostly fought those kind of thoughts. She was milking the good feelings for ALL THEY WERE WORTH.

So, with a cheery disposition, Head Girl Sophie Brown hurried into the common room after Kate, new kid, new kid, and Abby, a delighted spring in her step. "Party TIIIIIIME!" she announced with a pumped fist raised in the air, psyched BEYOND BELIEF for HOUSE BONDING TIMES. WOOP WOOP.

...But. There was immediately a disconcerting thing plaguing their FUN PARTY atmosphere. It wasn't Kate nor the first new kid, who seemed to be chummy over there on the couch, nor was it Abby, nor the professors...

Brooding new boy who had sensitive hearing problems from the feast. The kid looked like he'd gone frozen solid, without being cold, and like he'd probably hate this gathering planned by the leaders. It was a fair assumption considering the way she'd seen him try to avoid interaction with EVERY single person at the feast, so... he was probably going to want out of this, too, wasn't he?

"How 'bout I make you a s'more, bud?" Soph asked, passing directly in front of Daxton so he'd SEE her and giving him wiggly eyebrows as she crossed right over to the fireplace, waggling her fingers at everyone else in the room in greeting, too, before smiling at the two adults. "Fearless leaders," was her choice of greeting with a nod to them before she popped a marshmallow onto a roasting stick and propped it over the fire.

Didn't have to tell her twice to dive right into food time.

Pausing by the door had been a mistake, Daxton realised this. He was already starting to move away from it, feeling too exposed with his back to the door and not knowing who might come in and grab his shoulder or arm or nudge him or poke him or push him or literally anything. Assassins, groundskeepers, or students with no boundaries; they were everywhere.

But even as he started to step out of the way so that he could at least move off to the side of the room, there came a great shrill cry from behind him, causing Daxton to hurriedly cover his ears with his hands again. He didn't keep them covered for long, though, more as a quick fix solution. For reasons.

The loud girl, who was barely taller than he, got a stare. Initially at the badge, which was the first thing to catch Daxton's eye as it caught the light when she sauntered past. He caught a glimpse of her face, and then she'd wandered off anyway. Daxton was confused for three main reasons.

1. Why was she calling him Bud when that was absolutely not his name? And it was a stupid name.
2. What the heck was a s'more?
3. Why was she moving her eyebrows like that? What was wrong with her face?

Perplexing. Daxton did not take her up on the offer, and in fact totally blanked her. And a good job too, because if a s'more involved one of those marshmallows the badged girl had just gone for, then he absolutely wanted no part in it. Sweet things were disgusting.

... And he noticed his dormmate, Sabbath, across the room, slipping through the doorway that led to the dormitories. That alone was enough to make Daxton suspicious, though there was very little that didn't provoke such a reaction from him. He narrowed his eyes, and decided to stay put for a moment longer. He had wanted to return to his dormitory and rest for a while or maybe get some sleep, as he'd slept poorly (if at all) the night before, but refused to do so if someone else was in the room. Especially that boy. Even when his fellow first year reappeared, Daxton stayed exactly where he was, and resumed judging the occupants of the room, especially the loud badged girl.
