She was playing games, and while he loved games, this wasn't what he had in mind. He would play along though, because otherwise they'd get nowhere.
"Because of you," he answered truthfully. "I was thinking we should have done this," whatever this was, "before breakfast, or lunch... we should work on our timing for next time." And yes, he was perfectly comfortable with being even the slightest bit cheeky right now.
Whether squeezing his hand was part of Maggie's answer, he wasn't sure... but he wouldn't complain. Instead he waited for her to answer her own question, and was surprised when it mirrored his. So she DID miss him (because it seemed obvious to him). "We're here now though," he pointed out, both of his hands now holding hers.
