The talk of summers though made her feel a little better. Hers had been boring also. "Yeah, I didn't exactly do much either this summer." Unless thinking of where she wanted to move counted. It didn't. Or maybe it did and she just didn't feel the need to discuss it with anyone.

As for owls she didn't have a snowy owl and didn't really care to have one either. "Nope I don't. Riddick is a Forest Owlet and he's home with my father," she explained more to Colt first. As Brooklyn said she wanted a Gyrfalcon Hady glanced her way and gave her friend a small nod of the head and a slight grin. Good choice. She didn't blame her for wanting one.

"I was named after one of my dad's horses he had on his ranch when he was a kid. Very clever ain't it?" he rolled his eyes. He didn't think it was but now he lived with this name for the rest of his life. That was cool her parents were visiting New York. Hopefully he could visit there sometime soon. A gyrfalcon? What was that? He furrowed his brows and asked, "What is a gyrfalcon?" Now his newbyness was showing but he didn't care. It sounded cool and he wanted to know what it was.

Colt heard Hady mention Long Island. He turned his head and was impressed. Not a lot of people knew about that part of New York. "Oh really what part of Long Island are you from?" He visited there sometimes when he was a kid. He loved going to the North shore and taking his uncles boat out and going on his jet ski.

Even if she had been, Brooklyn wouldn’t have admitted she’d been worried. That was a weakness, and she refused to admit any of those to someone she’d barely met. Not when they could take advantage of that for all she knew. It wasn’t spiders, at least. “Well thank you then,” she replied, before giving him a nearly incredulous look as he’d freely admitted that the idea she’d discarded as impossible actually was true. That he literally was named after a horse, and probably not even the horse’s name. “I’m sorry.” Not really. It wasn’t sympathy so much as pity, that he had to deal with being named after an animal.

Hady would understand, even though she knew the other girl was hardly the type to say anything about it. She was nicer than her, anyway, and she was continuing the discussion of where people lived and what they did over the summer. At least there wasn’t a big story there. She didn’t have to feel like her story was stupid. Although, there seemed to be a story behind Hady’s words. A story that Brooklyn wasn’t planning on asking about. Hady could talk about it or not, it didn’t matter to her.

“Why didn’t you bring your owl to Hogwarts?,” she asked instead, blue eyes checking on her cat again. Before they went to Colt as he’d asked what a gyrfalcon was. What did he think it was? She almost asked that, but held herself back. “It’s a kind of falcon. They’re good hunters,” she said instead, with a decisive nod. Obviously Hady had approved of her plan, given the girl’s nod and grin. Not that she particularly needed approval from anyone. She wanted a gyrfalcon, and she was going to get one. Just not right now, not when her parents were too distracted by Lily getting married.
