Not because he found it upsetting, but because it never took long for a that to turn into something more sinister, so it was always smart to be on guard.

Daxton eyed David Truebridge for a moment. The smile could mean anything; he didn't know if it was a mocking smile or just a happy smile, or if this boy was just one of those people where that was just their face. It was frustrating, not being able to tell, but hardly an unfamiliar feeling.

He did have more questions, as it happened, but Daxton didn't want to seem like he was relying on David Truebridge for anything. The likelihood was that he could find more out eventually, and until then he had what was currently the most valuable thing to him; information about the Sorting.

So he shook his head, his expression impassive once again, and went back to inspecting the liquorice wand once again without so much as 'thank you' for the information David Truebridge had provided.
It was a good thing Davie kept his expectations for others low, at a level which was achievable for even the most basic human beings. This way, he never got upset when other people failed to rise to the occasion, or even to rise at all and show a little response for how helpful and awesome he was. Ahem. That small joke had been just to lighten the mood, okay.

At Daxton's almost dismissive shake of the head, Davie nodded and rose from his own seat. "It was nice meeting you, then," he excused himself politely. "I'll see you at school." With that, he quietly slipped out the door of the compartment and shut it behind him. Time to find Char.
