He didn't much like sweets; there were lots of foods he couldn't tolerate, and anything sugary was just too sweet for this often bitter and salty child and his oh-so-sensitive taste buds. The smell of liquorice put him off even further, and Daxton was just shaking his head when he realised that those were entirely new sweets from the magical world. He wouldn't be able to get his hands on another one unless he could find one to steal, so Daxton changed tack and nodded instead. Yes, he wanted it. For science.
He took the sweet and immediately abandoned the book on his lap in favour of inspecting this new item. Or at least, inspecting the wrapper, because he didn't want to open it and get his hands all disgusting and sticky and smelling of liquorice. The concept of 'manners' was lost on Daxton, so the other boy didn't get so much as a thank you. He was still listening to him, at least, about the criticisms of their textbook, and Daxton found that he had to agree. He'd read the book twice now and still barely knew anything of any practical use. Nodding his agreement almost distractedly, Daxton removed the book from his lap, switching it for his notebook now that he had the opportunity to do so, feeling less locked into place by anxiety for the moment. He pushed the ball point pen out from the spiral binding and flipped to a free page in order to answer the boy. 'History, literature, art, science, music, lots of things, but they don't teach all those things at Hogwarts, I know that. It doesn't matter, because I hate school. But I do like knowing things. I thought the History book might be most helpful today because I do not have the book about Hogwarts. Do you know anything about Hogwarts? I want to know more.'
Daxton turned the notebook so the other boy could see it, but kept a tight hold on it with one hand, while still holding the sweet wand in the other. After his experience with Genny Tate, who had scribbled all over his precious notebook, he wasn't taking any chances, but the boy sounded like he could be useful, at least when it came to information, and Daxton was growing frustrated with lagging behind. Well at least the boy had taken the candy wand, even if he hadn't said thank you or anything. Davie was getting the distinct feeling that he was making friends with a wild animal of sorts, or maybe like a goblin? Goblins were unfriendly and lacking manners like this boy; they also happened to be on his list of favorite creatures. In the theory of befriending this quietly grouchy goblin-boy, Davie pushed his glasses up his nose and leaned forward to see what was on his notepad.
How funny, he wasn't writing with a quill! "I know almost everything there is to know about Hogwarts," he answered honestly, almost cheerfully. "Both my parents taught there until recently," ish, "and I grew up in the village nearby." For most of his time, the most interesting part of his time so far. He wondered why this other boy hated school so much. Had he been to Muggle primary school then? He must be a Muggleborn, how fascinating! David could ask him loads of questions about Muggles!
Davie had much more to add, whether goblin-boy wanted to know about Hogwarts or not, but he wasn't sure if this boy wanted to listen. "Would you rather hear what I have to say or have me write it?" he asked suddenly, with an eying of the pen. "I can tell you about the Sorting, the common rooms, the ghosts, house elves, and most of the classes... the only thing I don't know much about is quidditch." On account of it being canceled and all. "I'm David Truebridge, by the way." He still hadn't figured it this kid's name, but now he had the chance to give to Davie.
