The look on her mothers face said it all as the train pulled away from Kings Cross Station. Ruby had her face pressed to the window taking one last look at her mother and fathers face before they disappeared from view for a couple of months. Ruby had never been away for such long periods of time and she was finding it difficult to keep it all contained. The tears were slowly slipping down her cheeks but she wiped them away with the sleeve of her cardigan that her father had suggested she'd wear.
Her twin brothers were on the platform too looking as disgruntled as ever. Daniel was tugging at his mothers hand clearly trying to escape. She couldn't help a tiny amused smile at the sight through her watery eyes. They were always trying to cause trouble. Her final thought as the train pulled away from the platform was that soon there could be a new member to the family. She wasn't sure how she felt about it, whether it meant that the girls were being replaced but she was supportive of her parents and if they wanted to adopt then she would welcome her new brother or sister with open arms.
Once they were completely out of view she sat back on the seat as she was supposed to. Ruby was incredibly thankful that she had her sister with her, she had no idea how Tabby had done it all on her own last year. She leaned her head on the blonde girls shoulder hoping for some comfort accompanied by the little sniffle that escaped her nose. “Promise you’ll look after me” Her words were quiet, needy. Ruby wasn't confident or funny or bubbly like Tabitha was. Ruby was shy and reserved and often deep in her thoughts. Going to Hogwarts was intimidating.
