There was no slap in store for him. Instead there were those three words he had wanted to hear from her. Jory simply pulled Gwen close and held her. "I love you, too,'' he told her, slightly cheered by the development of things. Here he was getting worried for nothing. But his happiness didn't last long because he soon thought of Ronnie. He would have to break her heart.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?'' Jory smiled as he pulled back but this time taking Gwen's hand in his own. It was just a rhetorical question so no answer was needed.
Hearing Jory say
‘I love you’ made her smile and imagine herself jumping up and down. It was real. It did happen. She couldn’t stop smiling. Gwendolyn rested her head on Jory’s shoulder, her hand in his hand. Hmm… this was nice.
‘I love you… more than anyone… ever’ She never liked anyone this way before. Not like Jory. He was so perfect.
Rhetorical or not, that question Jory asked made her worry. Why hadn’t she said anything sooner?
Oh so many reasons… ‘I guess it only took me thirteen years to realise it’, Gwendolyn replied jokingly to ease the tension. Seven years at Hogwarts, six since then. Thirteen years of knowing the love of her life but only admitting it now?
But to be honest… I don’t even know. Waiting for the right moment? Not figuring it out until now? Maybe. But it was more about… well… his engagement?

The thought suddenly hit her.
‘I can’t…’, she started saying and stood up from the bench.
