~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ The silence that followed, let alone the stillness, was almost unnatural. Sabel barely noticed the charge of energy, so consuming was the tumolit of his own emotions. He gripped his wand with white knuckles, staring at the immobilized reporter.
There were things he wanted to do. To say. To become in that instant. Things that terrified him to the core. That made him deaf to Truebridge's half-quip.
It was the sight of the man's severed fingers that reminded him, and the Headmistress speaking his name that snapped him back to an unsteady reality. It was an effort to remain on his feet, to not use the desk or chair to support suddenly unsteady legs. His eyes didn't leave the reporter. "Leg--" He had to swallow twice just to get past the dryness in his throat. "Legend, I have reason to believe this man is under the imperious curse." Anger again. He shoved it down with another hard swallow. Forced his voice stronger than he felt. "I would ask, as a personal favor, that he receives the full weight of protection from the MLE when he comes free of it."
It wasn't his fault after all. It was hardly his fault. And yet, there was still anger. "Him and any family he has." Finally, he managed to look at his friend and the Headmistress. "No charges will be pressed by me."
And with that, he turned to see what had shattered on his bookshelf.
