"Sure, I've played before. I'm not super great at it, but I'm not sure we care who wins, do we?" Strange thing, being a Slytherin and not caring about winning. She measured success in other ways. Dot seated herself at a desk and gestured for Kate to sit across from her. "I'm going to deal first and lay down a card, and then you play." She dealt out half the deck to each of them and then flipped over her first card.
Oh, well...it didn't seem that Dot had too much experience at the game either, so Kate guessed this would be an even match. She shook her head in reply to Dot's question.
"No, I don't really care who wins either. I just care if I play well enough to keep the game fun," she said. Regardless of whether a person liked or disliked Exploding Snaps, it was no fun playing the game with someone who didn't even know how to play back.
Kate took the seat opposite Dot and watched her deal the cards, all the while nodding at the instructions the older girl was giving her. Kate flipped over her first card, as well.
"Bowtruckles," she said aloud, which didn't match the card Dot had flipped over. She flinched, thinking the cards might suddenly explode, but they didn't. At least, they hadn't yet.
"Mmkay, your turn again." Dot needed a Bowtruckles card to match the one Kate had just put down, and if she had a match, she might get the first part. Kate held her breath as she waited to see what would happen.
