Project Muggle
The term is almost over. This means talks of summer plans begin – who’s going where, with whom? Friends make plans to see each other outside of castle walls, to travel, to meet new friends while reuniting with old ones. Family trips to foreign lands are booked, pre-sale tickets to Quidditch matches are bought, the air is just buzzing with the excitement of students leaving behind the beloved castle and roam the streets of London (and wherever else) again.
BUT. FIRST.
They must get through final exams.
For most classes, this means mile-long essay scrolls or the flawless performance of the most complicated charm of all term. In one class, however, the exam eats with you, walks with you, speaks with you, and, in its own way, studies you.
Professor Willoughby is quickly losing hope in his students. Many show a genuine interest in the subject, but a good half of them still fail to understand the importance of learning a completely different culture – the muggle culture. Like muggles, who fail to see the realness of magic, young witches and wizards seem to be equally blind to the reality of a world without magic, where people perform their daily tasks without the help of a handy-dandy wand.
So, what better sample of muggle life than a muggle itself?
Yes. For the first time in history, Hogwarts is welcoming muggles into its talking-portrait-covered corridors. A group of muggles have gone about their daily activities in the muggle world, gone to bed, and awakened in what most of them consider a dream. The current Headmaster has explained the reality of the situation, offering them a chance to return to the safety of their homes with no recollection of this strange dream, or to stay and be part of the magical world temporarily, before they’re returned to their homes in a month’s time.
The muggles aren’t here to study all things magical, though. They’re at the castle to be studied by Professor Willoughby’s muggle studies class as part of their final exam. The class will be divided into groups and each group will receive their very own muggle to study, get to know, take care of, and learn from. Some muggles are too fascinated by the moving armor to mind the way the classmates study their every move, while others have found their nightmares to become a cruel reality with the realization that ghosts do exist. Contracts have been signed however, and all muggles must stay during the final month of Hogwarts’ term.
Whether our witches and wizards pass their exams and Peeves stops picking on the frightened muggles…. Only time will tell! ________________ Characters:
