Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight

When Toby finally put the brush down, Griffin turned and gave him a look as if to say 'wait no what are you doing'. He pet her feathers and scratched the top of his head.

"Gotta wash your feathers now, Griff," Toby said, speaking gently as he used his free hand to test the water in the bucket. He watched her eye it warily. "Don't worry, you're not going in there. See?" He picked up one of the sponges and dunked it in the sudsy water, gently nudging the baby griffin off his lap so he could wash her and not... well... not himself, too. But Griffin had other ideas, and as soon as she was on the floor, she turned right back around and stood on his legs again instead.

... It was fine. He could work with this.

Using the sponge, Toby began to methodically clean Griffin's feathers, working his ways from her head down the rest of her body. He couldn't rightly tell if she liked it or not, because she was squirming around, but she was a BABY and a hyperactive one at that. In the end, he just assumed she didn't mind getting a bath, because there would probably have been squawks of protest if it was really that awful. Monty had loved the process when they'd helped wash the Hippogriffs back in his fifth year.

It took a while, thanks to Griffin's fidgeting (Toby had a renewed appreciation for anyone who had ever tried to sit and have a conversation or something with him when he was all hyper), but eventually he'd soaped up all her feathers and was ready to rinse her off. And, for the record, he was already soaked, and clearly it was about to get worse. Not that he minded.

"Evanesco." Toby vanished the water already in the bucket and then filled it up with water again. He repeated the same process as before, warming it up, though not for too long this time because he didn't want Griffin to have to water around while the water cooled, otherwise she'd be all soaking wet still and freezing. "Almost done, Griffin. Then we'll dry you off and get a blanket 'round you, yeah?"

He took the sponge and rinsed it in the now clear warm water, and got to work going over Griffin's feathers again, washing away the soapy stuff and leaving her feathers clean and gleaming. But still very wet. And, as predicted, so was Toby's uniform. But the important thing was that Griffin got dried off, sooooooo Toby cast another spell that sent a warm jet of air out of his wand and used it to carefully dry her feathers.

After a short while, Griffin was stood, still in his lap, all clean and dry and adorably ruffled. She looked at Toby and gave what sounded to him like a pleased-sounding squawk. He squawked back.
