A year of work being surrounded by Aurors and Hit Wizards had not, as he'd expected, made him as paranoid as them. Instead, Dale found him expecting suspicion from everyone he interacted with. He decided he preferred it.
All those thoughts ran through Dale's head when the young woman stared at him, and he felt... a little awkward. And also like a bit of an idiot, but mostly awkward. But... whew. Okay. "Of course," he replied, giving a nod and stepping into the maze, too.
He was silent for a moment, stepping cautiously ahead, but it had not escaped his notice that Dale didn't know this girl's name or anything. Seemed like something that needed rectifying if they were maze-ing it up together. "I'm Dale, by the way. Dale Upstead. MLE." Just throwing that out there. Okay good. Because Olly could really use some help there.
Nodding she made sure that they were walking next to each other. So he wouldn't have the chance to hide behind her in case they ran into something dangerous. His next words however earned him an unimpressed look. "You're law enforcement and made me go in first?!" Seriously?
Survival definitely trumped chivalry. "I'm Olly. Olly Clarke." She glanced at him briefly before focusing on their surroundings again. They weren't too far into the maze yet so it seemed like getting lost was their biggest obstacle. So far. |
