The reasons behind the maze were much more intriguing, and a point they could both agree upon. He was nodding, and thinking along the tangents such a proposition could have, when Lex suddenly turned into a caged creature. It took him a moment to figure out what had spooked her, and even when he did see it, he didn't understand.
So, despite her tugging and pulling, he stopped. Stopped and stared and tried to discern who he was seeing. No one he knew. Definitely someone she knew. "Lex....."
And then, in an all-too-clear moment, he understood. It was when he had turned to look at her, that he had seen the third addition to the maze from the corner of his eye. The man hadn't aged a day, hadn't changed a bit. The clothes, the shadow of facial hair, the dark crease to his brow, the deep set eyes and the stains dribbled everywhere over him. Dark. Freshly wet.
The only reason he knew the first spell that came to mind wouldn't work, was for the same reason that Lex wanted to run. Memories, in the flesh. Pictures of people they'd rather not see. Images they couldn't battle. The images that made the heart stop in a single, dead beat. Like a drop of rain on a drum.
Why she couldn't handle a man and a young girl, he didn't know. He didn't ask. It didn't matter.
The hole was blown in the hedge wall with little more than a thought, Lex grabbed and shoved through it ahead of him. She liked blowing things up. Perhaps she could do them both a favor and blow them all the way out of the maze. There were no pathways either of them wanted to take. As she said, it was time to go.
Why was he not budging despite her insistence? Sure the only way to go was forward but they didn't have to conform. The only rule was to make it out. At this point, Alexa had every intention to
get out and would not be lingering another minute.
Lex all but ignored him saying her name while she tried for an exit. Going back the wrong way could easily have them running into a dementor but going forward.....
Who was that?
She stared for a moment at the newest addition to the maze. A man. He looked a little worse for wear....and actually like he'd just gone through one hell of a thing but that was all she could discern before a hole was blown through the wall and she was being shoved through. The now giggling little girl was all the incentive she needed to put some speed into it. Her wand was raised the moment her feet hit the ground on the other side.
"Bombarda!" Another lovely hole.
In the moment, it didn't occur to her that the Boggart could follow them out if it was so inclined, they were just leaving. There was another hole and another until finally she was out in the atrium again, relief and exhaution plain across her features. She waited for Rhydian to make his exit then magicked the hedges to regrow with that one spell she'd been taught a few years back.
"I think...we should just get some food." Didn't matter that she'd collected him from the food table earlier, she was hungry now and in no mood to think about or talk about what they'd just seen. Sure she was curious about the man but common sense said not to ask so...food?
