Kate turned her attention to Professor Flamsteed as he kicked off the lesson. Werewolves. The moon. Right. She followed all that. She scooped up her styrofoam moon and plucked it on a stick. Pushing herself out her seat, she stood with her moon!stick and listened to the next set of directions. When the lights dimmed, she focused on the bluebell flames, the only source of light she could see.

Kate lifted her moon!stick and fixed it in between her face and the bluebell flames. She tried to keep up with what roles her face and the flames were playing. She knew exactly which phase this was---"This is the New Moon phase, right?" she asked, raising her hand. It was when the moon couldn't be seen, because it was directly in between the Sun and the Earth. Or, at least, this is how Kate pictured things with her face being the Earth, and the flames being the Sun.
