Zhenya was super excited to get started with this lesson, but for some reason she was having a mental block. She couldn't actually figure out what the lesson was about, combining potions, astronomy and DaDa together. Until it became quite obvious in written letters. Werewolves. OH MERLIN, Zhenya shook her head, how could she not have connected that? Well, anyway, werewolves! Perhaps they would be learning about the astronomy of the moon in connection to werewolves, how to brew a wolfsbane potion, and then how to defend themselves against werewolves? Not that there was much of a way to do that, but perhaps there were some defensive tools or spells to use.

Zhenya listened to Professor Flamsteed speak about the moon and werewolves, saw that a ball on a stick had been put in front of everyone, and they were then instructed to hold it and stand behind their desks. So, Zhenya stood up beside her desk as instructed to do, and Zhenya held up her moon in front of her face, or the earth, with the other half facing the bluebell flames, or the sun. Cool, this was already interesting.

Now what was that about what phase of the moon this is? The clue was when Professor Flamsteed said there was no light on the part of the moon they were looking at, which was the earth. So, basically the earth couldn't see the moon? Well, Zhenya remembered that bit immediately from those astronomy books Mr. Kitridge had lent her. But just as she was about to say what phase of the moon it was, others started saying it. What facts did she remember about it? Zhenya raised the hand that wasn't holding the styrofoam moon, "The new moon is hidden from earth during a new moon, except for during a lunar eclipse when you might be able to see the outline of the moon," she said. Although that was about all she knew about the new moon phase, she was already mentally writing notes based on what Professor Flamsteed had said, as well as the answers from her classmates.
