And even with him trying not to scare her, the poor girl had been extra jumpy for the last several months, and well, she jumped and the noise of his throat clearing.

Kara looked up, and after the initial surprise, she realized that she had seen this guy in the common room a few times. “Oh, um, Hi.” she said, letting a smile tug on the corner of her mouth. Sure she was shy and kept to herself, but she was observant and cautious. “Sure,” she nodded. 'if you'd like to help. I'm just weeding for now.”
