Which was why, perhaps, he appreciated this line of answering more than most. It made sense. It was almost, expected, and in that way it was an innocent curiosity. Still... "Have you ever heard the saying, curiosity kills the cat?"
Maybe that was a bad saying to start out with. Maybe people would take offence to the killing of cats. Or killing in general. He moved on quickly. "As a word of advice, in my experience, if someone has warned against dark magic, arts or wizards, there is a very good reason they have done so. Curiosity in and off itself is not a bad thing, but you have to be mindful of what consequences may come out of it. And where you get your answers to your curiosity from."
Right then, onto fun stuff. A grin broke free and abruptly his otter patronus disappeared. "Today, I'm going to teach you a skill that many Dark Wizards cannot, and never will, perform. For some of them to even try, it could result in harm to themselves."
Any lights going off?
Clasping his hands lightly on his wand and resting it on his crossed legs, Sabel let his eyes wander to to each student in turn. "What can you tell me about Patronuses?"
Today, was that someday, Mr. Rehman.
"And satisfaction brought it back," Xavier said under his breath as the professor made the comment about curiosity and the cat. Maybe it wasn't true, but his mother had always said it and Xavi believed that curiosity was
always a good thing. Nobody ever learned anything new without curiosity.
He hadn't a clue what a patronus was. It sounded like the latin word for "godfather" though so he decided he might as well ask.
"Does it mean godfather?" he raised his hand but spoke without being called on. As he asked the question he quickly realized that he was wrong. The other students were telling facts and ideas about patronuses and he understood now that the silver otter that had been in the room earlier was one of these things. And apparently it was supposed to be protection from the Dark Arts.
Xavi's face turned red as he realized his mistake, but he wouldn't take it back. The only thing worse than making a public mistake was making it, and immediately apologizing for it. There were no such things as stupid questions, and while he now knew what a patronus was, it could still quite possibly be the latin word for 'godfather.'
