Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight SO, at first he had NO IDEA that that other boy was actually talking to him, and it was very quickly apparent to him that it was a case of mistaken... something. He thought Abey had been saying hi to him but he hadn't but he didn't want to hurt the other boy's feeling's or anything but he also felt so shy, and also inexplicably embarrassed about the whole thing. Regardless of that, though, Abey still smiled (however timidly) at the very enthusiastic boy, and gave him a teeny wave too, like that's who he'd been saying hello too all along. Yep. "Hi, mate," he repeated back to the boy automatically. Mate. Abey liked being called 'mate', and he liked saying it almost as much.
They had to STAND somewhere now, that one man had said so and then Junia said so, and Abey did exactly as they said, because he was absolutely going to do as he was told and be good and EVERYTHING, uh-huh. His cousin was saying something about the man being a Seeker and something else about bats, but Abey wasn't listening because he'd JUST noticed ALICE.
The six-year-old gave what could only be described as a delighted squeal, except he was so quiet it came out more of a squeaky 'eep'. Abey tugged on Junia's hand again to get her attention. "It's Alice, Junia. It's Alice." Hassan's friend! Abey was so pleased to see someone he already knew as one of the teacher ladies, and he stood there grinning in Alice's general direction, standing up a little taller too, 'cause he was totally so grown up and everything, see? He MIGHT have waved too, except that one other lady (there were a lot of tall teacher people here, Abey was starting to realise) was telling them what to do next. She was ALSO telling them not to rough-house, but Abey didn't want to do that anyway.
Without further ado, the young Botros bent down and caaaarefully placed his broom on the ground, being sure to be gentle so he didn't hurt it. Just in case.
And then... um... what hand did he write with. Abey had to hold both hands up in front of him for a moment, staring between the two and trying to remember which hand it was that drew pictures for his grandfather, which hand wrote notes to go with them. It only took a few moments before he figured it out, though he wasn't sure if it was the left one or the right one, and once Abey knew which hand was needed, he stuck it out over the broom. "Um... up." ... Please? Maybe? "Up...?" Perhaps this required a more forceful tone than Abey was able to muster. But he kept trying. "Up."
That last one seemed to do the trick. Perhaps brooms for kids were better at doing what they were told, or perhaps Abey's pure WILLING it to fly up to his hand had paid off, because next moment there it was in his hand. The boy grinned widely once again, SO proud he'd managed to do it.
