~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ Touche. He pulled the paper back and deposited it on the counter.
Despite the thoughts tumbling through his head, Sabel couldn't help the smirk that grew on his lips. "Really? You'd do that for me." His eyes returned to Rainey. "I'm touched."
It did say something though. Something that made the nerves settle a little bit, and his suspicions quiet. The man's words and tone were somewhat familiar, a strange but comforting echo. "I suppose we should be."
Admittedly, during one point of his rereads, he had found the article absolutely ridiculous. To the point of laughter. Worries had kept him from laughing though. For as foolish as the lies in the article were, he couldn't disregard them, because others wouldn't discard them. And he had more than himself to worry about.
The dry humor faded from his expression as he considered Rainey. "Be it the jumble of lies that it is, it's woven from pieces of truth." And that was exactly what made good lies believable. "Perhaps not intentionally so, but one or more MLEr's are opening their mouths about things which the public has no business knowing, and will interpret wrongly." Point in case right here. Not all of it was false. The 'bribery', the eyes in the ministry. As twisted as it was, it didn't help the MLE's reputation, and it was already hurting. "It's....a concern."
Unless Rainey cared little for what the outside world thought of his department, and from his interactions with the man so far he wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
