| Anna Potter and the Other Prophecy - Sa16+ Sassenach | RAVENPUFF | Sing me a song of a lass that is gone | bookDRAGON | #awkwardturtle<# I'm Jess, and this is a story I've been working on for a few years. Basically daydreaming about Harry Potter one day (as I do) and I thought about an alternative - what if he had a sister? There's also slight discrepancy here in comparison to the series, as I've just moved things around/omitted/added thing for purpose of my story. When I've skipped over certain canon events, assume they occurred as written in the books.
There will be a bit of romance here, perhaps a love triangle, some tragedy, and adventure, so I hope you enjoy the story! DISCLAIMER: The universe in which I am writing my story, and all cannon characters are strictly the creation of J.K. Rowling. Chapter One: In the Beginning Harry and Anna Potter were born to James and Lily Potter on July 31st 1980. Orphaned at the age of one, the twins were left in the care of their mother’s sister and her husband – Petunia and Vernon Dursley. Of course, Harry was treated the worse – he was a boy. But Anna, being a girl, was treated slightly better. Their caregivers had always wanted a little girl, but never could. Anna was a mirror image of Petunia’s sister, Lily, inside and out. She and her husband knew full well that they were both freaks, just like their parents.
What happens in this story is that Voldemort had two choices. He could kill Harry Potter to become the world’s most powerful Wizard, taking out the one with the power to vanquish him, or he can have Anna become a follower, his right arm. See, Anna was born with an extraordinary skill of dark magic, unlike so many others. Skill that Voldemort desired and required on his side if he were to succeed with his plans. However, this skill was not yet ‘activated’, and Anna had no knowledge of this. For her to be able to perform this dark magic, Anna would have to become a Death Eater. She would have to voluntarily join Voldemort and his followers, or bind herself into the family of a Death Eater, but at her own free will. The two prophecies he heard that fateful night had left him to ponder. Not wanting to waste time, he took the option he believed to be the quickest and easiest. Voldemort knew coercion would not activate her dark powers. Besides, she was an infant. He had at least 17 years to wait until he could fulfil that prophecy, so he went for Harry. We all know how that ended. So, after his attempt to kill Harry Potter had backfired, he had to re-think his angle. He knew Anna would want nothing to do with the Dark Arts, or him; because together that was what had killed her parents and left her and Harry as orphans.
When Harry and Anna received their letters for Hogwarts, they were overcome with joy. They had always been outcast at their school, thanks to Dudley and his cronies, but they had each other. They liked to call themselves ‘The Freaks’. It agitated Dudley that they embraced his taunts, which the twins liked to see, but it also made them feel stronger against what was said to them. Every now and then they could make things happen, things they just couldn’t explain.
When Anna was 9 she fell in love will Billy Taint, who lived down the street. They were in the same class at school. He was the only person who didn’t make fun of either her or Harry, but he didn’t acknowledge them either. When he asked Lucy Karl to be his girlfriend, Anna was heartbroken. She, with her dark red hair and freckles, her green eyes, and her big lips, was nothing compared to Lucy. Lucy had short, curly black hair, bright blue eyes, and no freckles! She had the perfect smile, and straight teeth. Anna understood why he had never noticed her before – she was too ordinary. When she went home, she had a bath and cried tears of anger and sadness. When she got out, her eyes had changed colour! They were bright Blue! How did this happen? It reminded her of the time she was 5 and shopping for clothes with her Auntie Petunia.
Petunia knew she could not dress Anna in Dudley’s old clothes, being 8 sizes bigger than petite little Anna. She would get stares from the other parents at school, and people would begin to think badly of her. So Petunia bought her some plain coloured clothing from the cheap shop. Anna didn’t care; she didn't have to wear Dudley's stinky fat clothes, unlike Harry. As they were walking around, a girl of 7 came out from the hair salon with her mum. She had her hair cut across her face, a fringe, and her hair was all different lengths, it was layered. Anna had never had her hair cut before. “Auntie ‘Tunia? Can they make my hair like that too, please?” she asked.
Her aunt pursed her lips. It was almost a reflex when the twins spoke to her. “I’ll cut it myself when we get home,” she replied quickly, not wanting to spend any more money on her niece.
When they got home Petunia cut a hole out of a garbage bag and put it over Anna’s head and started cutting. Her fringe was uneven and far too short. She cut chunks from Anna’s hair that weren’t even and were very noticeable. Anna went to look at her new hair, thinking it would look like the other girl’s hair. It did not. Anna cried herself to sleep, but the next morning, when she looked in the mirror – her fringe was straight, and her hair was subtly layered. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It was ugly last night, and now… it was perfect! Petunia didn’t even notice – she thought she had done it that well.
Anna remembered that as she looked into the mirror at her almond shaped blue eyes. “What… How is this possible?” she thought.
She went down to breakfast, but Petunia, Vernon and Dudley did not even notice. They rarely looked at the twins, or even spoke to them. They made their orders, or the small amount of conversation, as if speaking to dust. Harry noticed though. He looked wide eyed at her, and she gave him a look as to say “not now you prat!”
The next day, however, they were back to their usual green, and she hadn’t thought anything more of it until her 11th birthday. Their whole life had been turned right side up. They were at Diagon Alley with Rubeus Hagrid, and had met so many wonderfully kind people. They were POPULAR! They had never had any friends, apart from each other. Their life, suddenly, had purpose. They knew who their parents were, and that they had sacrificed their own lives for their children. Filled with a brand new spark, the twins eagerly awaited entering the school their parents were taught at.
