They were taking a short break from studies when Alice walked in with a paper, and plonked it on the table in front of her friends. “It’s called the Dark Mark,” she said morosely. “They actually have a death mark! They parade their murders in the sky so everyone knows some innocent person has been murdered.”
“That’s barbaric,” Molly said, picking the Daily Prophet up to read it aloud.
Daily Prophet Journalist Magnus Brigette reporting on a sight just near Paddy Terrace, Yorkshire. A muggle community with known wizarding occupancy. At three this morning reports were made on a strange green cloud overhanging the house of Mr. and Mrs. Notts. When the Magical Law Enforcers came to investigate, they found the bodies of the Notts family in the kitchen. It was ruled as murder, and the death eaters in question had been arrested soon after. It was during the questioning that the wizard they believe to be the ring leader of the murder opened up and explained the mark was called The Dark Mark, and signifies a death at the hands of a death eater.
The graduating Gryffindors sat in silence thinking of the life awaiting them outside the castle.
