Even those who look like they could be in his year didn't look familiar.

He decided to go by the dessert table, mainly because he was too nervous to eat anything. Plus, it never mattered whether or not one was hungry. There was always room for dessert. Grabbing a few carmalized fairy lights, he wondered around, munching. He paused and looked around the dance floor. Maybe Ophelia couldn't find him and decided to dance instead. There weren't many people on the floor, so it wasn't hard to eliminate a few people. Half were guys, and half of the girls had brown hair. Ophelia's hair was blonde, so that wasn't too hard. Looking along the side of the dance floor, he saw a girl, who was probably older than him standing on the side lines. She had the same idea of hitting up the dessert table. She was blonde, but she was too tall to be Ophelia. But he decided to talk to her, mainly because he needed something to help distract him from his nerves.

He walked up to her. "Hello Miss." Why was he so formal?
Just as she was about to give up her gracefully standing off to the side tactic Tora saw another student approach the dessert table. Good choice, desserts and hopefully he would make another good choice and come talk to her. Yes, looks like he did. Smart kid.
...formal kid. Well, it was a formal dance, Tora supposed. Why not?

"And good eve, Sir." she replied in kind, bowing a bit before she forgot that she wore a dress and was actually supposed to curtsey. Oh well. She peered through her mask at the boy, trying to guess what year he was in and if she knew him. Younger than her for sure, but definitely too tall and awkward to be a first year. Not that she would know him anyway with the weird aura of anonymity about the whole gala. Let's see if she knew him by the way he talked.

"I see you also like desserts instead of dinner? Though I prefer the joberknoll feathers to the candied fairy lights myself," she said waving about the second of the two feathers she had picked up.
