NOT THAT SHE NEEDED IT OF COURSE!
Okay cool. She grinned at him, then curtsied because it was an HONOR to be practicing with him. Hehe. Then she moved away from the wall a little so they'd have more room and wouldn't get interrupted by any of the other people in the dueling arena. Right. Yes. Ahem.
"Ready?"
She cleared her throat. And actually focused. There was NOTHING worse than embarrassing yourself. So there. She tightened her grip on her wand (having finally learned HOW to hold it properly) and closed her eyes for a second. Deep breath. Just like when she was doing yoga. Find your inner strength and.... "Impedimenta!" The incantation was accompanied by the right wand movement. She basically drew a horizontal line in the air with her wand. Cool, huh?
OH LOOKIT, HER SPELL!
Toby, too, moved so he was in a good space, away from other duelling partners and with enough space between them that seemed wise for a duel type thing. THEN he made with the bow but only remembered a half-second AFTER Maggie had curtseyed because, well... Toby had never duelled before, even for fun, so he was a little bit rusty on that protocol. BUT... all sorted, okay, tiME TO D-D-D-D-DUEL.
"Ready. Hit me with it." BOOSH. Power stance. Well, uh... Duel stance. Toby was SO READY.
Oh, uh, maybe not that ready. Because, when the spell flew at him, Toby forgot to block completed. Perhaps it was just a sport reflex, from Quidditch and stuff, but his first instinct was to attempt to physically dodge the spell. He darted to the side but the spell grazed his shoulder. It felt like he'd been lightly punched or shoved in the arm, forcing Toby into a weird backwards step/pivot thing, but... in slow motion. Like... like moving through thick syrup. Merlin. WEIRD.
After a few moments, though, he was back to normal, and rolled the shoulder that had been hit with the spell to shake off the last of the sluggishness.
"Nice one," Toby said with a grin, unable to hold back the encouragement despite being mid-duel. Okay, must remember to use the shield charm at least once.
His turn, then, Toby raised his wand and moved it in a kind of arrow-to-the-right motion, along with the incantation:
"Rictusempra!"
Ehehehe. So this technically wasn't a spell Toby had LOADS of trouble with, but he'd never used it in a duel situation, and it felt like a good idea to practice with something he was moderately confident with first as he got used to the setting. Ahem.
