“Been there, felt that,’’ the Puffer replied in relation to feeling like a Squib. As a first year, he had wondered for a while if being a wizard meant he had to have the Inner Eye or whatever it was but of course his thoughts were wrong. Adi grinned. “Sure thing… Nick.’’ He wondered what the other boy’s dad had against nicknames but he didn’t push things. If Nick wanted to tell him what that was so, he would.
Calm your mind… yes. That could be difficult to do sometimes but it was something Professor Cassie also emphasised. “Professor Cassie says soft music also helps,’’ he told Nick and the portrait lady. But he stared now. “Really?’’ he asked excitedly. “That’s great!’’ She did have the gift, right? Not merely tricking them?
"I'll do my best..." Nicholas sighed reluctantly. He wasn't expecting much when it came to divination, but if he was anything at all, it was determined. He desperately wanted to be able to say he'd overcome his divination difficulty, and the only way to do that was to try - even if that meant being exposed to failure and embarrassment.
As hopeful as he was, he'd follow Adi's example, as he felt the older boy had a much better handle on divination than he did. He was very self conscious about his abilities, not only in divination, but in nearly every subject. He did well in most classes, but he set an unusually high standard for himself that he struggled to reach.
Nick looked back up at the portrait and sighed.
Relax. Open your mind. It was all so confusing. How does one open ones mind? He was left saddled with more questions than answers. Still, he'd need to give it another go, and that he did.
"So, what.. I close my eyes, and listen to soothing music and.. stop thinking?" He looked between Adi and the Portrait.
