It was forbidden, yeah, sure everyone knew that and most could respect that. Heading in with that knowledge, you had to have solid reasoning or one brain short of functional. He was willing to believe the latter applied to the boys.
Entering, he leaned against his desk and STARED from one to the other while he tried to find the right words. This was bad, it was really bad. This wasn't some simple act of disobedience; a boy had been drawn off into the depths of the forest by man-eaters. "I don't suppose I have to tell either of you the likely outcome of your friend?" He asked with an even tone and a raised brow. Surely they were smart enough to put two and two together. "This is beyond serious, I hope you both realize this." And if not, they should have by now given the grave look that took over in short order. "I can't even say it was stupid because it was beyond that." But he would wait for the Headmistress before having them get into the details to save him the repetition.
His gaze drifted to Miss Greyvson when she entered. "What you SHOULD have done as a responsible Prefect is see them all out of the forest. You shouldn't have been in there in the first place. None of you should have." He hadn't hauled her here, no, but she was here now and would get a piece of it.
The Gryffindor was trying not to quiver under the Professor's heated stare. It was hard, but he was trying his best. It wasn't a joke this time. This wasn't just a welcome feast debacle. A boy had been taken away. Taken away by man-eaters. And Zander Adair was the one standing there wearing a Prefects badge. "No, sir," he shook his head rather gravely. That was it then? Did that mean... Gregoire was... He couldn't even say it. He didn't want to have to say it. Hopefully Professor Quigley wouldn't say it either. He didn't want to have to hear what he knew was reality. This was horrible.
And as Puck entered the door, Zander gave her a look of utter disbelief. What in Merlin's name was she doing here?! As Professor Quigley started speaking again, Zander turned his head sharply towards the enraged man. He oh-so desperately wanted to tell him how he had only gone into the forrest to get Aegis out. That they were on their way, ready to leave when Gregoire showed up. That the whole time he was trying to stop the snake from making their situation any worse. Yet, he stayed quiet. Save the details for when they were asked. They'd get a fair trial, right? Before they were expelled...?
And now the headmistress was here. They were really going to get expelled.
