One minute the kid looked like he'd stolen her Christmas...and the next she was...well quite frankly she was being annoying and Maddox had signed up for a nap when he got back inside, not a spirited Gryffindor. Airey was their Head of House, it was his job to deal with the crazies and Maddox's to tolerate them for a designated hour a few times a week. Of course he was willing to tolerate them outside the context of the classroom but not with...all this. Oi vey.
Maddox rubbed at his face, his unwillingness to stand through her rant evident. If he took ten points would she run away and never come back? That would do him a world of good. "It's funny you should feel that way," though the look on his face was anything but amused, "because this was revealed my very first lesson when half your classmates attempted to take me back to their dorms. I can respect you skipping my classes, it's not on me if you don't come and thus don't learn but then you must have missed Professor Bellaire's lesson as well where she spoke about my animagus," that was the word you're looking for Miss Neverwinter, "abilities."
He turned to open his door with a tap of his wand then walked inside and leaned against his desk, now staring her in the face through the doorway. "I'm obligated to care if you make a habit of skipping as it'll do very poorly for your education, but a confession to that won't be necessary because I have no intention of leaving my office to report you to your Head of House. Yet." He would tell Airey during their Friday Game Night. That's when everything got told anyway. "Now I'll ask you again if there's anything I'll be able to help you with and if the answer doesn't strike me as urgent I may accidentally close my door and have you come back with a better reason and an apple." Amur's face went beat red. No. No she didn't remember that. Otherwise she wouldn't have freaked out. She still thought the Professor should issue some sort of warning. What if another student had a black cat that looked exactly like him? How would anyone be able to tell?
But she kept that thought behind sealed lips. And shook and nodded her head as appropriate. Yes, Sir. No, Sir. Nothing else. Anything else would be dangerous.
Glancing up at him, Amur slowly pushed herself to her feet, gathering up her rock and the book. "I'm sorry Professor. I'm just used to seeing cats around the castle and I --" Got confused? He already clarified that she should have known. That thought caught on her tongue and she swallowed it. "I'm sorry. And I won't skip. Promise."
She wasn't a skipper. But now, really, she wasn't sure if she wanted to go through with this anymore. She thought it was important, but Professor Quigley might sing a different tune. Especially now. Would he think she was trying to lecture him again? She should have brought an apple. Why didn't she bring an apple?
Shuffling forward, Amur stopped in the doorway. "I uhm...just wanted to give you this." She held out the book titled, Couples Counselling. "I uhm...noticed you and Professor Bellaire were having some....well trouble getting along, and I thought this might help. I know it might not be one hundred percent applicable, but...I thought it was relatable given last class." See? Not a skipper. Not always.
"And-it's-doing-no-good-sitting-in-my-suitcase-under-my-bed." The last part was tacked on in a rush. She wasn't sure if this was something that Professor Quigley would consider urgent or important, and she hoped he wouldn't slam the door on her. That would hurt.
So, to avoid becoming a flattened pancake, she quickly shuffled into the room and continued to hold it out to him.
