Penelope had been getting some textbooks and other things she would need to do her homework from her dorm when she heard the noise that seemed to be coming from the common room. And was that shaking? Were they having an earthquake? Was the whole school going to collapse into a sinkhole just like the quidditch pitch had? This was definitely not normal. She needed to investigate.
Heading down to the common room with her textbooks, Penelope looked around. Spotting one of the first years (Kate), Penelope went over to where the younger girl was. She appeared to be looking at the statue of Rowena Ravenclaw. Maybe the statue had somehow caused this? "Did you hear that?" What was happening? Penelope had many more questions, but she didn't want to overwhelm the first year.

Nordic Witch Leo had just started up the stairs to the Ravenclaw Common Room for his usual visit of the day when he felt everything shook beneath his feat. What was going on? Scotland wasn’t known for having earthquakes were they? Using the banister to haul himself up straight, after toppling over in surprise, he sprinted up the stairs two at a time with haste.
Not bothering with answering the Bronze Knocker's riddle in his concern for his eagles he used his wand to unlock the door. A little out of breath he rushed into the Common Room spotting Kate and Penelope near the big fireplace. "Kate, Penelope are you two all right?"
Glancing around Leo wondered just what was making the room shake.
Even though Kate had suspected somebody might respond to her, she still jumped when she heard the sound of somebody behind her. Turning around, Kate nodded.
"Yeah. I was just about to start on some homework when the whole place started rumbling and shaking. It sounded like it was coming from behind the statue," she said, turning back around to look at Ravenclaw.
When had Kittridge gotten here? Kate hadn't noticed that, but she was really glad to see an adult in the room.
"I'm just fine," she said.
"I think we might lose the statue soon, though. All the rumbling and shaking seemed to be coming from there." The castle wasn't tumbling down, was it? If so, she wanted out on the grounds. Or better yet, she wanted to get to Hogsmeade.
