On top of looks, he also received eye-rolls. She was good at those dramatic ones. Also laughs. LOTS of laughs, actually. You know what else she was good at? Getting him off his game. He needed to start rolling with these punches and delivering some himSELF. Paulie folded his arms with a less than amused expression and waited for her to finish. "Hah hah. Gooooosh, Tori. Journalism's turned ya into suuuuuch a comedian. I'm dyin' here." NOT.
"Louisa probably felt sorry for how dry your column was gettin', so she pushed me in your direction to spice things up a bit." Yeah, that's it. Plain and simple. He lifted his chin and smiled with his teeth.
But the smile subsided slightly to make way for the inevitable scoff that came with her ridiculous presumption. A crush? On her? What was this, 2078? "Uh huh, as if." He even topped it off with an eye-roll that wasn't so unlike hers. Tori sort of leaned her neck out to stare at Paulie as though he were... well, stupid. "You're not supposed to take the title THAT LITERALLY, Paulie," she stared at him. "No one does. Oh my gossssssssssh you have GOT to be kidding me if you think it's literal." REALLY? Really? REALLY?
She shook her head slowly again, half-amused and half-annoyed. Yeah, she was funny. A lot funnier BY INTENT than he was by accident. She narrowed her eyes at his latest comment. "She has no time to pity someone successful like me," the redhead fired back with a soft 'pffffffffft,' sound of disagreement. "We're friends, Foster, don't forget that." Funny how much they had used to hate each other, right?
Tori calmly raised an eyebrow at him. "Is that the sound of you agreeing with me?" Well, he hadn't said NO, he'd said 'uh huh.' See, she was getting a great idea here... and scooted her chair a bit closer to his so that their legs juuuuuuuust brushed. "Tell me why you're really here, Paulie, please---" pause to rap her hand on his knee and let it linger there just a bit longer than necessary, "---I INSIST!"
