The snake was used to telling the things that happened with him in an altered way. His grandparents were fed all sort of lies. Though, now he knew better than to lie completely. "I was hit by the Whomping Willow," That was the truth, which he wasn't proud of. "I was trying to prove a point," Which he sort of did at the end.
