Adi shot Benny a smirk as questions were being written on the board. The boy was going to pay extra careful attention to this lesson. Yep! There would be a day when he turned his bestie into a dragon!
After sitting and reading each of the questions, he raised his hand to answer number three. "I read Gwenog Jones of the Holyhead Harpies would turn persons into wood lice when they disagreed with her." That was so mean of her. Well yes there was that and to be honest as laws were as lax as they were back then Hogwarts would be infested with woodlice. Yep. "Very good Mr.Rehman. You're obviously reading. 3 points." Quote:

Oh, the famous person in history who used transfiguration. She's gonna answer that. History of Magic was her all time favorite subject. She raised her hand and gave an answer. "Professor, one of the famous person who used transfiguration is Viktor Krum, the triwizard champion from Durmstrang. He transfigured himself into a shark at the second task of triwizard tournament in 1994, although he didn't do it perfectly." The transfiguration, of course. "Very good. That is an example of what we're going to do today. Transfiguring ourselves. Though...not into sea creatures...not yet. 3 points." Quote:

Once seated, she began taking things she would need out of her bag, all the while listening to the Professor. She wasn't too knowledgeable when it came to human transfiguration, but she did know some things. Raising her hand, she decided to give one of the questions a go. "The ancient witch Circe liked to turn sailors into pigs." As to WHY she did that...Lux had no idea. "Well she was quite a woman. There is nothing like helping a person to show their true form." Most men were pigs..everyone knew that. The woman had the right idea. "3 points." Quote:

He raised his hand. "For the last question, I believe Gilderoy Lockhart once tried to mend Harry Potter's broken arm after a Quidditch accident, but rather than transforming the broken bone into a healed bone, he vanished it completely," he said confidently. Sophia tapped her nose repeatedly as she thought about the boy's answer. "Yes and no. Lockhart was an idiot. He did end up performing a form of transfiguration but it was vanishing. One doesn't exactly transfigure a broken bone or any sort of illness into something else. Healing is a completely different chess match all together. 2 points." Quote:

Dante did not know who she was talking about with the fourth and fifth questions. So those were out. And he was not the biggest fan of history. So nope no historical figures. Though Bellaire was kind of famous. Everyone here knew who she was. "Well one famous person in history who used human transfiguration is you, Professor Bellaire."
Smile. And since she was teaching them. She must know human transfiguration.
Maybe. Dante did not know. He was only a second year Sophia fought the smile that was curling unto her lips. She did shake her head at the boy but there was a hint of smile as she did so. "Not the answer I was looking for Mr. Barrington." Quote:

Angel raised her hand. "Didn't Peter Pettigrew, fake his own death by using human transfiguration." Angel thought that he was a famous wizard though he was a bad guy and had betrayed his friends. "That is correct Miss Valentine. Pettigrew used as form of human transfiguration called animagus transformation. Which as you will learn later on does not require a wand once you have mastered the art of it." Quote:

Hmm.
She eyed number four and bit her lip. She was no expert on Hogwarts but as far as she knew there was only one Professor who dealt with Transfiguration other than Bellaire, and that was Quigley. Right, avoid question number four like the plague.
She raised her hand. "Professor, there was Thaddeus Thurkell who turned his sons into herdgehogs because they were born squibs," bright and cheery answers, as always. She remembered reading that in a book once and being absolutely horrified. "Ah yes! 3 points." If that had happened to her, perhaps she would have turned Rhea, Tyler and Ariana into hedgehogs as well. Quote:

The puff looked at the questions on the board and he knew one Professor who was great a transfiguration. She could turn herself into a cat. "Professor I know back in 1991 a Professor named Minerva McGonagall used human transfiguration to transform herself in a cat." She was quite successful at that too. He wished he could be an animagus sometimes.
But what did he know about history. If he was wrong he was wrong. Quote:

Listening to the Professor and then seeing the question Margo raised her hands to answer. "Professor Minerva McGonagall was an animagi and was able to transfigured herself into a cat." Margo said making sure to answer only one of the questions. She didn't need to be breaking anymore classroom rules today.
Oh yes McGonagall was her idol. All time favourite professor in the history of professors...almost. "The transfiguration professor was an animagus and was probably the most skilled of her time. 3 points." Quote:

The first question he knew, but he was old enough that the information had been covered in class before. Three of those questions involved history, and Toby could get fuzzy on. Which left... 'Expound on human transfiguration', except... Toby didn't know what 'expound' meant. Up Toby's hand went, as he raised it into the air before properly thinking through what he planned to say. "Human transfiguration is, like... super complicated and tricky and, like, I think it's one of the hardest things you can learn. Basically you can use human transfiguration to alter your appearance and physical characteristics. Sometimes people can transfigure themselves into animals, but I think that's way different from being an animagus, which is having an specific animal form you can learn to transition into whenever you like. And I'm not sure if being a metamorphmagus counts as human transfiguration, because technically it is but its also more of a natural ability that can't be learnt." And, uhh... he'd stop there before this turned into confused/confusing, speculative rambling. That was sort of all he knew and most of it was guesswork. "You are right on all counts Mr. Tempus. But let me just clarify that being a metamorphmagus does qualify as human transformation. You are transfiguring your body from one form to the next. The metamorphmagus would just have an advantage because it comes naturally and they unlike the rest of us, won't have to spend months or years learning to do it. 5 points." Quote:

Especially after the little hint she had just given. "He's an animagus and although the cat form is good his hearing is way too sensitive" That was why the rule of silence was in the rules with that class, not to mention that he acts so not rational when someone even speaks up. Transfiguration gone wrong. Quote:

She didn't want to ask Bellaire because the transfiguration professor kind of scared her. She did wonder if being an animagus counted as human transfiguration. She assumed so, because Bellaire seemed to be hinting at that. So Hayden raised her hand.
"Professor c- er Quigley can turn into a cat." Sophia smirked.
Well it seemed her students weren't as air headed as she thought. Kevin surely surprised her if no one else did.
But they were right. It was the new Charms professor. She wouldn't debate on that though. Hehe "10 points to you both." Quote:

Questions were already being thrown at her, and her brain wasn't registering things. How did people function this early? Hands were raising right and left and all AJ could think about was that she really should have eaten breakfast. As if on cue her stomach rumbled. Goodness.
Wait... Quigley was who she was getting at for the bad transfiguration person? But his face was so perfect. Hmm... maybe she was missing something.
Anywho, why not take a stab at it? Her hand was raised. "Transfiguration changes something completely. Like a horse into a house." Could you do that though? "And Charms is where you enhance an object instead of changing it completely." Made sense to her. "That is correct. 3 points." Sophia felt like she needed to go through this every single class because for whatever reason, people were still mixing up the two. Quote:

Rude. Eden had lost FIVE points her first time in this class last term. HMPH.
But anyways. Human Transfiguration. Those questions were...oddly worded. IT seemed Bellaire had some...hidden agendas. Hmph. Eden wiggled her eyebrows at the board and tried to think of how to answer any of them. If she could answer any of them, that is.
But she did raise her hand. "Um-well--Transfiguration is changing the appearance of an object without changing what it's made of--whereas Charms changes the matter involved in an object in some way, shape or form."
Actually, Eden wasn't sure she was right. But she said it anyways? "Basically you just described charms." Quote:

Or perhaps he was meerly over thinking the whole thing. He would just have to wait and see.
Benny sat down at his chair when Bellaire gave them permission, carefully setting his belongings out on his desk. Parchment and quill resting in front of him for notes and such as the class was begun in ernest. He looked at the questions added to the board and wondered about what possible answers he could give to any of them. There was another look sent his way from a certain Hufflepuff.
Adi was certainly going to be enjoying this lesson.
Finally he raised his hand to try and expond on the subject matter as best he could. "Human transfiguration is the act of changing the makeup of part or all of a human into something that is like a creature or non-living." Certainly that made sense in a way. "Like the sea urchin jinx." That had been something that he had caught in his reading. "Correct. transfiguring the human body into something other than it's natural form. 3 points" Quote:

Sort of. She tried anyway, hoping it addressed one of the questions she couldn't read at least.
Hand up. "Anyone who eats canary creams is using human transfiguration temporarily, professor."
She did not eat those things. High sugar and fat content, and if she was going to wear feathers it would be as a fashion accessory. "Canary creams...." More nose tapping. "Well yes, they do aid in transfiguration but they would fall more into the potions field. 3 points" No expertise or naturally ability or any ability by the person being transfigured was used, after all. Using these spells on other things was alright since he knew that it could be changed back if he needed to but on HIMSELF?! That was a different matter. What if he ruined his face? HELLO. This was an important issue!
And........... that gave him an idea for an answer.
Raising his hand in the air, he said, "Human Transfiguration is DIFFICULT," NEWT level stuff, he had heard. "and can go easily wrong so you have to be careful. If you get it wrong really badly, you could end up staying in that transfigured state, which doesn't sound like my idea of fun." Imagine having green eyebrows for the rest of your life?
No. Just no. "That is correct Mr.Whitlock. And if you become distracted or mess up. You best believe you will be left in that state to learn your lesson." Quote:

This was the one Kate had decided on day one that she was scared of.
Kate knew she couldn't stay scared of the professor, though. Not this scared, at least. She had to take Transfiguration, and she had to participate in the lessons. That meant she had to talk to the professor at some point. Questions were being asked now, so Kate guessed this was as good of a time as any.
Raising her hand, she said, "There's a former professor named Horace Slughorn who once used human transfiguration to transfigure himself into an armchair just to avoid somebody detecting him." He ended up getting detected, too, she remembered, and that was how he came back to Hogwarts a second time. "That is correct. That was fine human transfiguration. 3 points." Quote:

Oh. Harry Potter era answers, especially from some firstie Ravenclaw. "Wasn't there a Professor Mawdy or Moody or something who transfigured a student into a ferret? That probably couldn't have turned out well." Unless the teacher was SUPER good at transfiguration. Quote:

The answer that Janelle had was kind of in between two questions. She raised her hand and tried to sound confident. "Professor Mad Eye Moody.....well the person that was posing as him, used transfiguration to turn a student into a ferret." "He got into trouble for it too", she added. Janelle wasn't sure where she had heard that story, probably from her sister. "A Professor Moody Miss McAlistor and yes he did. I wish we could use that as punishment today." She sighed. "3 points." “The only other ‘famous’ name I can think of is this lady from the 1800s…Mirabella Plunkett who transfigured herself into a haddock so she could live with her merman lover” she offered with a grin. Really.
Fish lady. How’d that go? "That is correct. And ladies..." She tsked. "Never change yourself for a man. 3 points." Quote:

So...if thats the case isn't it like a Polyjuice potion? And if it is then I think Hermione Grange did Human Transfiguration wrong when she tried it." He wasn't sure at all. "Like I said to Miss Banner. Yes...and no..human transfiguration in the sense that you are using natural abilities or a wand to transfigure the human body, even though potions such as polyjuice and skelegrow are used to 'transfigure.'" Quote:

Human transfiguration?
...
Hand up, Zeke spoke the words on his mind. "There are people that have the ability to change their appearance at will, I think they're called metamorphs? No... metamorphmagi!" Yeah, them, they were cool. "One of the members of the Order of the Phoenix was one," but he couldn't remember her name. He didn't like History, it was hard remembering names and dates and things like that. "And your home work will be to bring me the name of that person Mr. Rogers. But yes..3 points." Quote:

That thought was all too tempting.
After the question was asked and Bellaire clarified, Beverly raised her hand. "Human transfiguration doesn't limit itself to just transfiguring basic body parts, but as well as the entire body; it takes a highly skilled wizard to accomplish that. As far as for body-part transfiguration goes, it can vary from simply changing the color of your eyes or hair, to individual animal body parts." "And that is also correct." And she expounded lovely so.. "Five points." Quote:

Quigley?
Oh, man. That's... that's wha...??? "The Charms professor is a failed animagus?"
His hand was half raised, and the statement was almost more to himself than in response to Bellaire. Failed... failed animagus?
Why was she telling them this? Did... did Quigley want them to know? He hadn't wanted Dima to know, that was for sure. Sophia Bellaire almost grinned in unbridled glee, but alas she forced a neutral expression on her face. "Well let's just say...he's had to live with his lapse." So the rest of them better not mess up. "Alright so now that we are a bit clearer we will move forward with our lesson." She turned to the board to scribble some other things down. "First to fifth years will be changing the colour of their eyebrows, using this transfiguration spell, "capillus colorum"while the 6th and 7th years will be changing their ears to elf like ears using this spell auribus aquta. These are the simplest forms of human transfiguration we can do without actually using potions or canary creams. Both require a simple tap of the wand to the areas." That was simple enough right? "The mirrors are to be used to monitor your progress."
She looke at them all. "Questions?"
