Inspecting another tie, and noting the way that the fabric was a little too crinkly for his liking, he lifted it up and turned towards the young man again. "Hmmm, perhaps I should handle the ironing then. You can check for ties that look like they could use a bit of ironing. No crinkle too small, Mr. Adair."
Honestly, Zander knew as little about ties as he knew about Ancient Runes. So, it was probably a good thing that he wasn't going to be the one handling the ironing. Yes, very good thing. "Of course, Professor," and normally he wouldn't be all for volunteering to help inspect ties. Not really a great use of time, you know? Especially when he could be using that time to go play with his cruppy and stuff... But, he was probably going to be here for a bit and there was something appealing about focusing his mind on examining the thin pieces of fabric. It was like a nice break from all the wandering his mind had been doing lately. Especially since he felt so overworked with OWLs already.
He picked up a tie and examined it closely as his Head of House got up to grab the ironing board. Noticing a couple of folds in the fabric, he gently set it down to the side, somewhere that would be easily distinguishable from the rest of the collection. Then he reached for another one and began inspecting it in the same process as he had the other. "Do you normally do this all on your own, sir?" He knew he wasn't supposed to call Professor Flamsteed 'sir', but it was kind of a habit now. But anyways, there were a lot of ties. And if his Head of House did this every single month... Well, that's even more tiring than Arithmancy Homework. Well okay, maybe not as tiring as that. But pretty near close.
Though he wasn't really here to inquire about the tie inspecting techniques... No, there were other reasons. Lots of reasons. But one main one. Giving the tie in hand one lass thorough look, he set it down in a new pile on the other side of his legs. This one didn't have any crinkles. He triple checked. "I know I didn't really get the chance to say this before, Professor... But I just wanted to say thank you, for this," he glanced down at the Prefect badge stuck on his chest and then back up at his Head of House, before picking up another tie. "Thanks for believing in me, even though I bet Kevin hasn't been all too happy with you 'cause of it." Yeah, that's right. He had seen the look on the fourth year's face in the luggage compartment. And though he did try to act otherwise, the disappointment was there. And it had bothered Zander. A lot, actually. Though talking to Lottie helped ease that a bit.
