SPOILER!!: Sophie!

The passion with which he carried out tasks was very similar to that of a curiously elated child, and it was actually a little adorable, if... a grown man could be adorable.

When he was finished with his painting, Soph tilted her head and her eyebrows raised slightly. Was... he really not going to take that headset off? Did he really want to have the conversation just like this?

Welp.

In an attempt to defuse some of the tension she was feeling over the situation, Sophie very gingerly crossed one leg over the other and laced her fingers neatly in her lap as she responded, "I wanted to say hello, actually. And..." err... "well, a few things, actually. First and foremost, I wanted to tell you that... well, everyone knows I'm gonna be a Wandmaker someday and a potioneer, too, and m'super good at those subjects, but..." She took a moment to collect her thoughts, her gaze on her fidgeting fingers, then cleared her throat and went on, "I like Astronomy a lot, too, y'know? And the Wandmaker at Ollivander's, Ira Banner - he told me, back in my first year when I told him I wanted to be a Wandmaker, he TOLD me that I needed to be good at Potions, Herbology, Astronomy, Runes, and Arithmancy to be a good Wandmaker. Like... I need an Outstanding in all of those, basically, and that's no big deal. I've got 'em down." Shrug. She knew it. Well... Runes was questionable, but the other four were solid, so she had a WHOLE TERM to feel just as confident about Runes, too. Easy peasy.

"So that was originally why I started getting into Astronomy even more, 'cause I needed to, but like... I love it. A lot." There was a distressed sigh as Sophie pulled her hair over one shoulder to brush her fingers through it anxiously. "How do I DECIDE what I want to DO with my life when there are SO MANY INTERESTING THINGS? I want to study it all - Astronomy, Potions, Wandlore - and I want to be like... the master of all these fun things. They're ALL fun, professor, and all intellectually stimulating and enjoyable and make me happy. I wanna be a potioneer and a wandmaker and an astronomer." Her gaze drifted up to meet his and she gave him a hard, calculating look. "I want your honesty - you've known me for four years, professor. You've seen me grow from a lil ambitious first year to an even more ambitious fifth year," she grinned, "and I trust you to hit me with reality - CAN I do it all? Are my dreams unrealistic?"

C'mon, Flamsteed. She was a big girl. She could take it.

Knowing all to well that that 'first and foremost' would be followed by a plethora of other topics - especially in the case of Miss Brown - Airey gave the Ravenclaw his undivided attention. Which was quite easy to do considering the subject matter. It was one thing to teach students in the classroom and see them evolve as individuals right before his eyes within the compounds of the castle, but discussing what came next - what path their lives may take once they left the security of Hogwarts - was almost a more fascinating phenomena.

"Those are all stellar fields of study, Miss Brown," he grinned. Although he had an obvious favorite among them. "But I must admit that I do not know too much, nothing beyond the basics that is, of the connection between astronomy and wandlore. But, if I may be so bold to say so, based on what you have said just now - and this is meant as no disrespect for the other careers you mentioned - it seems your true passion is in the dream of becoming a wandmaker." Just an observation. He could tell by the way her eyes lit up when she spoke about it. "But just because you have one true passion does not mean that you must give up the others. Anyone can be an astronomer, Miss Brown. It is a trait that we, as humans, are all born with being decedents of astronomers. I just realized, in my youth, that I wanted to take this further than any other past time I had."

Assuming she recalled the lesson in which he spoke in detail on the subject.

"I do not see why you can't be all three of those things, especially if they are all your passion, but as a career...sees like wandmaking is the best of all those worlds. Combining all your interests into one profession. He paused for a moment, tapping his chin thoughtfully while smiling at the Ravenclaw. "Not to mention, as is in your generous nature, providing the wizarding world with something that will forever be an extension of themselves."
SPOILER!!: Kevin!

THAT was how passionate he was with this.

Watching the man sit behind his desk and doing that thing with his hands again, Kevin felt slightly uncomfortable because that was a typical authority type of sitting and it annoyed him to no end. Demands? Oh no those weren’t demands he asked for or…well, no wait it were and he wanted them all before he left this office! Although at this moment, when his Head of House looked at him hard he wished he hadn’t even mentioned the thing about Zander.

He let out a frustrated groan while he leaned closer to the edge of the seat and after he looked at the ceiling for a second he locked his eyes with him as well and stared back. “You.Don’t.Get.It, do you?” he said, each word had been said slower to make it clear. “That is EXACTLY why I don’t like it that he is a Prefect!” the boy let out another frustrated huff. “I mean, what would people think of him when they ever found out that his best friend is someone like me? Huh?” THAT was what was bothering him about Zander being a Prefect. Not because he was one but if anyone ever found out that he was best friends with a bully and major egoist, they would think down on him as well!

Drown....a mermaid.

...

Airey might be rubbish at Creatures, but not even he was that daft. And Merlin did he need to figure out a tactic to teach Mr. Hirase to not be defiant just for defiance's sake. "It is, but referring it to as an alien language may be a bit offensive."

Potions, huh? Culloden certainly had his hands full then.

Airey was not entirely pleased with the manner in which Mr. Hirase was sitting, but at least he HAD taken his shoes of this time. So score one for the Astronomy professor! Listening to what the young man had to say, however, was....perplexing. And his initial reaction was to call it selfish as well, but he refrained.

"So, you are saying that Mr. Adair should be punished by association?" he asked, eyebrow raised. "Well, in that case, why don't we just lock all students sorted into Slytherin away in Azkaban for being sorted into the same house as the Dark Lord. All Gryffindors not to be trusted because one of the greatest betrayals in our history was caused because of a one Peter Pettigrew." He threw his arms up dramatically into the air. Yes, punish the world by association. Brilliant concept, Mr. Hirase. "It is no secret, Mr. Hirase, that you and Mr. Adair are friends. Best friends, as you put it. And as I have told the both of you on various occasions, I am pleased that you are. You are good for each other."

Dramatics aside, the astronomer leaned over his desk just a little to make sure that he was making eye contact with the Gryffindor. "Now, I am sorry that your world is apparently shattering now that your friend and someone who you respect is now in an authority position and thus ruining this image you have created of authority figures in which they are all evil. But the world is not black and white, Mr. Hirase. And it it about time you ceased assuming the worst about yourself. Especially with others, Mr. Adair and myself included, are trying to help you see the good."

Entirely missing the point behind the boy's words? Certainly. But he was no mind reader. ‎Legilimency had never been a subject he had excelled in.
SPOILER!!: Kace!

"You know what Profesor I didn't know that either till recently. Once I got to thinking what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I have always been fascinated by the stars." As cheesy as it sounds it was the truth. He saw him move his hand over his heart and it made him blush a bit.

Kace knew he didn't take is Astronomy OWL. He just didn't want to face the rejection of seeing his dream being crumpled if he failed. He just couldn't bear it. "Aahh well the type I wanna do is like study the stars and constellations.." he smiled. Oh? Additional schooling? Well he figured that. "Would that mean I would have to go to Wizarding University Professor?" he was curious.

Huh, interesting. Of course also pleasing to the man's ears to help another astronomy hopeful. But seeing as this was only a recent life revelation, Airey could tell that it would take some time fishing around to figure out where the Hufflepuff's true passion in the subject was. Not an open and shut case as it had been with Miss Wisteria.

"Ah, so more observational astronomy then, I take it?" he asked as a means of further clarification as he rummaged around with some folders in one of his desk drawers. "No, not necessarily. Muggle university will do just fine, especially since you do not have an OWL in Astronomy you can use on your application. Your marks in the subject and the right recommendations from professors here at Hogwarts will do just fine." He pulled out a few folders from his desk and set them on top. "However, it will require additional study on your behalf as Hogwarts does not cover the same subjects that muggle schools do. I have made arrangements previously for home school courses that can be done via owl, if you are sure that is the way you want to go."
SPOILER!!: Zander

Must've been, really. He wasn't even going to question the shoes thing because maybe this was just another one of those strange processes the man insisted upon. Like the lint rollers. Actually, he was quite surprised that there wasn't a sign to do that before entering. Anyways. Taking off his shoes rather lazily, he put them to the side of the door way before walking in.

...... What?

Ties. That was new.

Though Zander honestly preferred regular carpeting, if this is how the man worked best then let him be, right? "Hi, Professor?" he said eyeing the ties instead of looking at Airey. Whoops. Then furrowing his brows in a confused manner, he shrugged before deciding to just sit down on the floor in a small spot not-occupied by ties. He didn't want to be on his feet, okay? And the floor just looked really inviting despite the tie-display. Trailing his finger over the tie nearest him, he looked up curiously, "What are you doing with all of these ties, Professor?.... And uh, do you need any help?" The last part was said with the slight hesitancy.

Tie in hand, Airey pushed himself up on to his knees as the prefect entered. "Ah, Mr. Adair," he said, his voice full of surprise. "I was not expecting you." Obviously.

"Oh, all this? I'm just doing my monthly cleaning inspection of my tie inventory," he said with an eager salute. It was like Christmas morning to the man. Lots of things were...when he got to thinking about it. "Have you ever tried your hand at muggle ironing before, Mr. Adair?"

This was QUITE the statement, mind you. The astronomer did not even trust the house elves to take care of his suits.

"But surely you did not come here to help me with my cleaning, although appreciated. What can I do for you?"
