WAIT. Pause for stretching! The second year leapt up and leaned over to touch her toes, glaring at her legs when her fingers came a few inches short. C'mon legs! NOW you decide to be long? Sitting back down on her mat, she recovered from her flexibility failures by ignoring the fact that the entire world probably just saw her being bad at stuff and decided to make up for it by giving the BESTEST answer to the final question. It was gonna be AWESOME. Norah twirled a strand or five around her finger and let it bounce back as she thought.
Hmph. The only things that she could think of were the conjuring issues, which they had already discussed, and how darn bright the room was. Oooh, and what would be for lunch. Maybe steak and kidney pie! Or beef casserole. Ahem, anyways. Complications. Complicatiooons. OOH! Shooting her hand into the air, Norah bounced a little on her mat and offered, "Maybe it gets worn down over time. 'Cause with protego you just deflect the spell like bam! but with the silver shield spell 'cause its a physical shield that you produce with transfiguration it gets weaker after blocking a bunch of stuff." Putting her hand back down, she gave Professor Romanos a satisfied smile. That was sooo good, right? Riiiight? Quote:

Jordan took some notes after hearing about this type of physical shield charm thing. He couldn't remember what exactly it was called because he kind of dozed off into space during the first half of the class and was just now refocusing his attention to the class. He did notice though that the Professor was having discussions about the downsides of this physical shield. So Jordan decided to take a shot in the dark: "Could a downside of the shield be that since it's a physical shield, isn't there a possibility for it to be broken by opponents?" He thought this would be a somewhat logical guess as it made sense to him, sometimes things tend to break while dueling and conjuring spells especially something like a shield. If it wasn't right, he was proud of himself for paying attention in class, something he used to struggle at especially in his first couple years of Hogwarts. But Jordan felt he was sort of getting used to it now. As the first students began their answers, she made a quick check on the time, taking note on just where they were in the lesson. Little behind, but there was no cause to hurry. "Right," she nodded, looking up to the two students whom had given a similar answer. Oh, Norah and Jordan! "Just like anything else, the shield can be vorn down over time and broken completely given the right amount of force. Vhich could potentially make it a hastle to recreate a new shield and position it properly before the next attack occurs."
Depending on the situation of course. Quote:

It happened every time the end of the term approach. Suddenly his work quality would shift to a dramatic low, weird huh?
As for the next question, Zander decided to speak up this time feeling as if staying quiet wasn't really getting him anywhere. Especially since his notes were kind of failing, participation would probably be the next best way to absorb the information, right? Uh. "Well, with the shield you've probably got to concentrate more since it's a physical thing... But with protego it takes little effort and it's pretty quick," Uh, right? Maybe? ... Next time he'd let Sophie answer. "So in a duel, when you've got little time, a quick spell might be preferred?" He was really trying here, people. Quote:

The Ravenclaw DID stand up and stretch though, because her brain was turning to mush from all these questions...that she didn't know the answers to. And here, yet again, was another one. Well. Oops. When she sat back down, she sighed and tapped her fingers on her desk. "Well--" She had raised her hand. "Um--well--it's probably not as practical to use in a tough situation--nerves might prevent you from being able to cast it as easily as other spells--" Was all she could think of. It was lame. Eden FELT lame. But whatever.
Sigh. "That's vhere practice makes perfect, Miss McGee," she grinned, bowing her head a little. "Although, you never know ven practicing in a safe environment versus a pressured situation. Nerves may indeed prevent you from casting the spell properly."
Speaking of pressured situations... "Right. Good, Mister Adair," he too received a smile and nod of the head from herself. "Time is a very precious ally." Quote:

'Cause now he was eager to give even more good answers, if possible.
Okay, well, he WOULD stretch and stuff, in juuuuuuust a second. Tobias was determined to get all these notes down, because every little detail would make all the difference when it came to OWLs and stuff. He could still offer an answer though, and after some thought, Toby stuck his hand in the air again. "It's sorta... related to that one advantage, about how you can use offensive spells and have the defensive shield at the same time-" THEORETICALLY of course. Toby wasn't expecting to ever be in a situation like this, 'cause it just didn't happen. Not in his little fantasy world, at least. "-but that means you have to divide your focus, like making sure you're using the shield properly and not about to drop it or anything AND focusing on sending out spells, so you have to multi-task. It's like, good and bad, or potentially easier and more difficult at the same time. A double-edged thingy." Did that make sense? Probably not, but Toby felt if he just kept talking then eventually something would come out of his mouth that would make the raw idea in his head make some degree of sense. Oh the possiblities and scenarios. "There's a lot of 'if's ven discussing this spell, isn't there?" she asked. Rhetorically of course. "But, yes, you are quite correct. It's own advantages can also become it's own disadvantages, especially if the vielder is unfamiliar vith vorking vith the shield in difficult situations." Quote:

Zhenya thought about it, but it was a bit of a tricky question. What were some negatives? She could probably think of a few small ones, but nothing really obvious. She thought some more, then raised her hand. Any guess was better than no guess. "One possible down side," she thought to herself, not really sure HOW the spell worked, "Could be space? If the user had to cast the spell in a really small space could it not work?" Being that it was a solid shield and all, was the spell conjured in varying sizes? She wasn't sure. Her eyebrows may have raised just a tad after hearing the Gryffindor's response. It was a GOOD answer. "Quite true," she nodded slowly, once again stretching her legs out in front of her. "It isn't quite as versatile as the protego charm ven it comes to space. Can very easily throw you off balance." Quote:

"Remember, the silver shield spell isn't like the protego charm. Even if you lose your vand, you von't lose your shield since it's a conjured physical object. Much as if you're conjuring some rope or birds."
That was actually a 'pro' when it came to the shield. Quote:

As for the downfalls of the silver shield, Maddie was inclined to agree with Tobias. He had a good brain, that Hufflepuff did. Meant he wouldn't have to fall back on his looks in the future so GOOD for him. "Well, you'd have to keep hold of it because it's an actual physical shield and that means having both hands tied up and it might be hard for uncoordinated people to do." Shrug. Having stood up, she stretched her back somewhat, hearing a couple satisfying 'POPS' as she did so.
And it had nothing to do with her rising age. Ahem. "That could be a great possibility of happening," she nodded with a sigh of relief as she leveled her back out again. "Although, today, ve're going to be hopefully getting somevot used to the position of a physical shield upon our arms. SO, on that note..." "If you aren't standing up, please do so now," she spoke, redirecting her attention to the class as a whole. It was time to get moving! "And do take out your vands... though do keep the spell casting to non-existent at the moment." They all got a not so serious 'look'.
No pranking and all that. You know. 'Cause she had to turn her back for a moment to move her mat out of the way.
Moving on! "Quick final question, does anyone know the vand movement for this spell?" |
