Vanessa breathed deeply as she pushed open the not so really familiar doors to the Department of Mysteries. It had been over an year, 18 months to be exact, since she'd been here. Things pretty much looked and smelled the same-- dark, with a pungent licorice scent. As she fanned her nose, she shouted a brief "Hello" to all in the Work Area. Vanessa really didn't know anyone. It wasn't only because of her sabbatical, but merely due to her rather unfaltering shyness around unattained acquaintances.
Her sabbatical was well needed, for she was a Death Specialist. Within her first 5 months here, she became completely stumped as to what to do. Everyone always seemed so busy doing things, and she well, really haven't an idea of what she specialized in, besides Death. Luckily, one her first day, she found an old journal with notes in it about the Veil that resides in the chamber. After spending hours and hours researching, she was at her witts end with her limited knowledge and tattered notebook. So she did something so unusual--- she took time off to attend a muggle university!!! No one knows the truth behind her leave, but now she was back and more ready than ever to conquer death and all its mysteries.
