{ Muggle Studies Homework One }

PART A: Question and Answers (5points)

1. What part of the camera adjusts the lens opening?
2. What type of camera develops a print instantaneously after taking the picture?
3a. What is one advantage to film processing over digital?
3b. One disadvantage?
4. Name three possible uses for photography in different careers? (hint/example: what would law enforcement officers use it for?)

PART B: RP Exercise (up to 10 points)

Your task is to transfer the negatives you developed in class to prints using the steps outlined below. All the equipment you need is available in the technology center. But minimum 5 RP posts and simply link to each

Text Cut: Negatives to Prints Process

* Use a scanner attached to the computer in the technology center
* Make sure the computer and scanner are both turned on.
* On the lid of the scanner when you open it, you should see a slot to insert a sheet of up to five negatives; it is embellished to resemble a film strip. You may need cut your negative strip as you cannot develop more than 5 images at a time; just be careful to not cut the actual image.
* Blow any dust from the negative and be careful not to leave fingerprints or smudges (so as we held it from its edges in class, i would continue to do so in handling it)
* Insert the negative to scan into the slot with the shiny side facing the glass of the scanner.
* Close the lid and press the button to scan it into the computer.
* A menu screen should pop up onto the computer monitor; select the option to print negatives in the scanner monitor. Resolution should be set to 300 ppi and type of digital file, JPEG.
* Complete the scanning process from your computer, clicking 'scan' on the menu, which will create a digital image saved onto the computer that you can elect to print out as a hard copy.
* Repeat for a minimum of 5 pictures

Optional questions about part B (for an extra 5 points):
1. Did your pictures come out? If not, what do you think you might have done wrong?
2. What part of the process did you like best? Like least?
3. Describe the images developed OR provide a graphic (must be your own creation) of the pictures developed.

Follow the Homework Guidelines. Homework is due November 11th by 11:59pm EST, ALTHOUGH I will accept it late till the end of the term for half-credit. PM/VM me with any questions.
