The spirit took over the professor and answered her question, and a few other questions. Penelope hadn't meant for anybody to be possessed, but Professor Cassie seemed to be alright with it. She didn't hear anybody yelling at her for asking the question, so she assumed that she wasn't in trouble, unless Professor Cassie didn't remember what had happened or was too exhausted to be mad at her. The professor usually didn't get angry, so she was probably not mad. When the spirit was gone, Penelope let go of the hands that she had been holding.
After the chocolate cake appeared, Penelope put a piece of cake on a plate and got a fork for the cake. This cake wasn't for her, it was for Professor Cassie. Penelope turned to Look at Professor Cassie. "Sorry, professor, I didn't think he was going to take over your body." It had been her question that caused the spirit to take over the professor. She handed the cake to Professor Cassie. "Have some cake." Professor Cassie was going to need the cake, and was probably tired.
