"Okay, that's good," Toby nodded. "Alive is good. I like alive." It was his favourite thing for anything to be, after all. Alive and happy.

Lalala, man, this jar was taking real effort to clean, but Toby was making real progress. THEN he heard the OTHER thing Thompson said and... oh. "Oh." Right. "Right." ... "Forgot about magic." Oops.

But hey, Prof T was a real stair, cleaning his shirt and tie back up for him. Toby SALUTED the man and got out his own wand, casting 'scourgify' on the inside AND outside of the jar and its lid, so that now it was all sparkly and clean.

Aaaaaaaaand... FAIRY CATCHING. Woah boy, this ought to be neat; Toby was already bouncing on the spot in anticipation, the glow from the fairies making his sparkly gloves seem even sparklier as they fell off his shoulder mid-bounce. He caught them before they could totally hit the floor and quickly put them on, noting that everyone else already seemed to have done so.

As soon as Thompson said they could go, Toby was OFF. He was... definitely not doing it the stealthy way, that was for sure, choosing instead to dart into the midst of the creatures with his jar held out. Technically, this shouldn't be too hard; Toby had proved himself capable of catching flying shiny objects before, in Quidditch. But... that was on a fast broom, and Tobias Tempus was also a lot more prone to clumsiness with two feet on the ground.

He'd spotted one to aim for, flying around right at his eye level. Not wanting to give it time to realise he was there and fly away, he quickly made for it, holding up his jar and attempting to trap it.

It seemed he'd had an attack of conscience, however, because just a few inches short of the fairy, he'd faltered a little and become much less sure of what he was doing. That was enough to give the fairy time to fly away.

Okay. Right. Personal pep talks were happening. Thompson wouldn't have them do an activity like this if it was wrong or mean, he was much too awesome for that. Toby supposed he was just hesitant about anything that involved trapping something, though once he caught an extra fairy, or maybe even TWO extra fairies, he knew it wouldn't be so bad. The fairy'd have friends to chill out with. Maybe if he tried to catch two or three at once? Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Definitely worth a shot.

Still thinking on it, Toby scanned the area for more fairies to target, eyeing the other students and their methods for this.
