With her eyes focused on the professor because quite frankly she didn't want to look at anyone else and because he offered her a welcoming salute which Layla actually appreciated, the blonde listened to his long introductions, welcomes and then finally the first question of the day. She knew that this subject would bare passing resemblance to physics and so she did feel a slight ping of confidence that she wouldn't be so useless at this subject than she was during that pathetic unrealistic divination lesson that everyone else seemed to love.
These students mentality were way beyond her.
They had these special name badges on the table and she was asked to perform her first actual controlled piece of magic. She breathed inwardly before tapping the badge with her wand and declaring "Layla Ackerly" in her South London accent. How awkward it would be if there was a misunderstanding but to her relief on appeared her name, spelled correctly and everything. She felt kinda proud.
Her attention was first drawn to Clara having a little 'moment' over on the opposite side and Eden being her usual self and fussing all over her. The fifth year rolled her eyes and tore her attention away. Someone was such a drama queen, wasn't she? And poor Layla had to spend three years in the same dorm as her. How awful.
Instead of focusing on the episode, she decided to offer up her own answer to the rather generalised question that the Professor, Flamsteed was his name, asked. "It's kinda like the space units in Physics right? Studyin' what's beyond the Earth's atmosphere.." She had been a muggle for fifteen years, everything would be related straight back to muggledom.
