Maggie had been so focused on practicing her wand movements that she hadn't heard the other girl approach her. So she literally jumped in surprise when she spoke to her. And then turned around so her wand was pointed at the Prefect. There were even small sparks coming from its tip.

What...was...this.......she stared at the Prefect a little wide-eyed. She hated having been caught in such an awkward situation. Because it just was. After a few seconds, she finally managed to get a grip of herself and reached down to pick up her wand again. Her eyes had narrowed slightly by now. Inner CACKLE.
She totally scared the little one and it AMUSED this Wayne more than it should. It wasn't at all amusing, though, when a wand was pointed at her...and SPARKS were coming out of it. Instinctively, she reached for her wand, but seeing as the girl dropped hers, Beverly kept her wand at her side. She was a witch. A Wayne. Her first instinct was to protect herself. No matter how tiny her opponent was.
"Ten points for almost attacking a Prefect, and expect a citation from our Head of House."
Her face did not betray that she was only joking and hoping to Merlin it scared the younger girl. What? A little joke never hurt anyone.
