Smiles. He was smiling. Y'know.. acting normal... yet Derry AND Addi (who he barely knew), could SEE the cracks.
Inwardly cursing himself for being the CRAPPEST Slytherin EVER to have graced these halls, he smiled slightly to try and cover his misery. No--actually, this was good. If Derry had gone all.. 'ooh, are you okay..' 'ooh let me hug it away', he probably would have started crying and never stopped. This. THIS he could handle. He could keep it together if things were kept light-hearted.
And 'Sourpuss..' He glanced at Addi.. “Biting's not always bad.” A little shrug and a little smile.. but his tone was quieter even than his usual mild mannered way of speaking.
Derry was being sweet now.... and he looked down at the box and--*deep breath*--he was fine, yea.. fine. He reached for Derry's hand as she slid the box towards him, raising his eyes to hers and squeezing her hand gently. He knew what was in the box without even opening it. “..Thanks, Derry.” He said softly, his eyes fixed on her ...And he wasn't referring to only the shortbread. Oh, and cannoli box was here. Cassia just reached out and fished one out and shoved it into her mouth. She didn't trust her voice. She didn't know what to say either. She might cry and then she would look stupid and lame. So she was just gonna sit here and chew. Yummy. She beamed at Cat appreciatively. Adelaide shot Cassia a glance. The head girl was awful quiet. She gave her a soft smile and a nod. Her smile grew bigger when she saw her dormmate reach for a cannoli. That did look good. But did she really want to spoil her appetite? Yes. Addi reached in and grabbed one too. Mmmm. Delicious.
