SPOILER!!: the future astrophysicists!

Testing, testing, riiiiiight. The grin was clearly appreciated, as it brought one to her face as well.

Oh? Wow, this was interesting, then. And for a while, her tea was completely forgotten. Her eyes were brightened by this very short story of... well, how Airey Flamsteed came to be, because she was finding out a part of his story that she should've known sooner. Sure, she knew about the astronaut part, she vividly remembered that day, but career-wise, she's just found out which path Airey took. This only made things a bit more difficult in terms of choosing. The sixth year just stared at him entirely marveled by the words she was hearing. It didn't come as a surprise to her, to know what he had done, since she could easily see it in the lessons he'd taught, but it was so interesting to hear this side of the story. "Did it all start with the idea of becoming an astronaut?" Honestly, she was curious and meant well with this question.

Finally taking another sip, Lotus left the cup on the desk as she gently took the pamphlet from Airey. She smiled as she read most of it in a matter of seconds. And bit her lip because excitement, yo! "Wait...," something clicked as her eyes kept on scanning the parchment, "...California?" It was rather amusing, if one thought about it, that America held a possibility of teaching her once again. She did attend a muggle school of design for her Illustration course this past summer. Summer. Her smile faded a little, the future seemed both too close and too far away at the same time. She shook her head to clear her mind and the smile slowly returned, "I'm actually going to California this summer. If the weather lets us out of this castle, that is." So, perhaps she could visit Stanford while she was there. Surely, she could convince Lex to tag along, she'd hate to leave her bestie on her own. "Are there any options in England or close by?" If he didn't know, Lotus will be definitely finding out a lot more information over the summer.

Also, she just remembered about the parchment on her lap. Okay, she'll give it to him soon, like..., in a couple of minutes. Let's not get him sidetracked right now.

Yes! More study! More things to keep her entertained next year! This was altogether excellent! You have literally no idea how excited Lottie was about this. "It's perfectly fine, midsummer works best, anyway." Because of trips. Yes, trips, plural. Sorry we can't join you, Airey. "Good. Death before dishonor." Klingon. A bit on the grim side, the comment, but it's always been that way with Astronomy.[/QUOTE]

He leaned back in his seat a little, his expression neutral for the most part but still with a slight grin on his face. "In a sense, yes," he chuckled as he remembered his 4-year-old self having his life changed forever all because of a muggle TV program his father suggested he watch. "Although it was really more to do with the immortal words spoken by William Shatner. Space the final frontier....to boldly go where no man has gone before... really resonated with a scrawny boy with bug eye inducing glasses."

And yes, back then it had been the ultimate goal to become the next captain of the Enterprise - before he knew his own strengths, obviously - but after the episode finished all he could do was turn his gaze skyward.

Looking a bit starry eyed, he shook his head and snapped his blue eyes back towards the sixth year. Was there...something wrong with California? Perhaps it was too far away? He understood how some parents could be about their children going away to such far distances. But to his relief it wasn't that at all, but rather that she just so happened to be going there. If he had any faith in such things, he would have joked that he was a Seer. But even joking about such a thing was preposterous. "Well, what a happy coincidence!" he exclaimed, clearly pleased by this development. "The University of Oxford and University of Sussex both offer stellar programs. The physics and astronomy programs at Sussex were actually ranked number one this past year, but in terms of a global scale both fall below Stanford in the rankings." Still nothing to frown at. Both were fine institutions. Any of the three would be lucky to have Miss Wisteria as a student.

Oh be still his beating heart! His smile curled up into a giddy smirk. "Precisely," he gushed. "I would also recommend you get in touch with Miss Fischer, when it became possible. She is studying astronomy at university as well and may be able to provide you with further tips about the process."
SPOILER!!: the future convention going cosplayer ;)

Or maybe Simon would save up enough money to attend for himself. "You have? Merlin. He usually dresses up as Bones," he explained chuckling a little. Simon was about to hint at the fact that Airey could take him but he supposed that he ought to get to know his Professor a bit more before heading off to the Star Trek conference. In the meantime, he'd work on persuading his father."I'll work on convincing him. It seems like a blast," he said as he too started getting more excited. The very thought of attending that conference was making him hyper!

Simon shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "That's alright, sir," he said with a grin. He didn't need any biscuits with his tea. Biscuits were nice but were not necessary at all. Right! Questions about technology. That HAD been about what he was asking the Professor about. "Yes! I was wondering whether or not you think that we'll be able to harness the technology to build spaceships like the USS Enterprise?"

Torn between asking more specifics about the boy's father to confirm his suspicions that the Bones cosplayer he was thinking of was indeed one and the same, he opted not to go down that route. Could just make what was turning out to be a rather comfortable conversation turn terribly awkward.

"Funny you should ask that," he grinned as he rolled his chair back towards one of his book shelves. "As you are probably well aware, in Star Trek lore, the first Constitution Class Starship Enterprise will be built by the year 2245. Back in 2011, an engineer has outlined in meticulous detail a plan for building a full-sized, ion-powered version of the Enterprise complete with 1G of gravity on board. Even proposed it could be done the technology of that time within 20 years. Unfortunately, NASA hasn't taken the proposal seriously yet although they did accept his blueprints. Mostly to humor the fan. I have his book here somewhere...."

Pushing backwards on his chair, the astronomer rolled passed his extensive bookshelf and ran his fingers over the various science fiction titles until he found what he was looking for. "Ah, here it is. Build the Enterprise by BTE Dan," he read as he rolled back towards his desk and passed the black minimalist looking book to the Slytherin. "You're welcome to borrow that if you wish."

Kevin merely shrugged his shoulders as he let it go for now though, he had already gotten his revenge by having a duel with the man. Which he sadly lost.

At his next words about making a proper friend, Kevin rolled his eyes. He didn't need anyone as he could take care of himself perfectly fine. And for the record, he didn't act aggressively. Others were just weak and couldn't deal with his awesomeness! Still, his words did seem to make him think for a moment. His mother would be so dissapointed if he came home for the second summer break while at Hogwarts (if they even got summer , stupid snow) and not to mention how his father would react if he had to tell stories of how friendless he had been. Maybe Zander wanted to be his friend? But the guy was acting weird and Kevin wanted to know what was up with him so badly.

To be honest, Kevin had only picked up the blanket and walked to the door with it in the hopes of getting a reaction out of it. A trade. The blanket for the hat. What he got instead made him turn around at the door and raised his eyebrow at the tone in the man's voice. Okay...this was kinda creeping him out but he pretended that it didn't by narrowing his eyes. Although this time it wasn't a glare, it was in suspicion. Whatever he meant, Kevin didn't like it and when he saw the wave, the second year dashed away going straight for the Gryffindor dormitory to grab his exploding and fireworks potions ...just in case he needed them.

He simply smiled and tapped his fingers together as he watched the boy leave his office. Heh.
