And she didn't sound like she believed his little explanation? RUDE. "Well then, what did YOU think that thing was?" If it wasn't a Cold One then what could it possibly be? Even though he was asking her mostly as a little retort, he really was curious to hear her answer. Maybe the Ravenclaw had actually figured out the mystery. "The one that ran out of the forrest with all the weird lightning the day of the club meetings," he explained a little further realizing that his question may have been a little, ahem, unclear.

He was not scared.

Okay, okay. A little scared. More freaked out, than scared. But at least he was on the look out okay? "Not scared, just surprised!" he argued. "I don't scare easily! I'm a Gryffindor!" he even roared a little for effect. Okay. That felt a little weird. Is roaring in the trophy room really what his life had come down to? "Plus, I was totally ready to kick your butt... If you were a Cold One." Mostly he was lying. Really, he was trying to convince himself more than he was trying to convince the girl. Funny how things work, huh?

The thing? What thing? Sophie's brows furrowed in confusion, but then he went on to explain... sort of. Lightning? What? "Dunno. I didn't see whatever it was that ran to the school, but it had to've been a person, 'cause it came inside the castle and we're all still alive and stuff. Plus, that wasn't lightning, it was wand sparks." She could tell that much from the conversations they'd all had at the book club meeting. Her Head of House seemed certain that someone was in trouble, and whatever had caused the trouble was still out in the forest.

"Who knows what they saw though." Since they hadn't heard back any reports on what was out there, or, at least, not that she had heard any details yet. "Could've been anything." Though lots of the forest-dwelling creatures had left the forest and appeared in Hogsmeade and up closer to the school, she knew that much. So... whatever was in the forest still... must have been pretty tough and fearless.

Didn't really matter though. With the way the weather was outside and how it seemed like the winter was just getting worse, Sophie doubted they were in any real danger. Nothing would be crazy enough to trudge through an icy landscape like that. Not even a... Cold One...

Right?

Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Soph put on a smile. Roaring to prove he was tough and brave? Funny kid, he was. "Suuuuuuuure, sure. I dunno, though, Zander. Don't think you'd hurt a fly. You seem pretty harmless. Not a threat at all." Had he figured out that she wasn't being serious and was just trying to get a reaction out of him? And was succeeding? Her big, cheeky grin should've given that away.

Sophie loved it when people made it so easy to poke fun at them in good humor, and this kid with his squirmy defensiveness was a hoot.
