She felt all the same things about him. Undoubtedly. But HEARING that he reciprocated those feelings instead of her just assuming... it brought all sorts of emotions to the surface that she had been trying to repress for the sake of their friendship. "Me too," she spoke softly, her throat tight and raspy to accompany her struggle of holding back happy tears. "You're my number one, too." And the thought of being with him for the next hundred and thirty-five years made her smile the biggest of smiles. What could be better than that?
As Toby adjusted his seating position, so did Sophie - she was curious about his tone, and sat forward, raising her eyebrows with interest at what he was going to say.
And oh, did he have something to say.
As soon as he said 'we go for it,' giddy giggles bubbled in her throat and she brought the back of her hand up to her mouth to try to cover it up while he went on. He was her boyfriend and she was his girlfriend. HEHEHEHEHEHE.
The concept was beautiful.
The giggles kept coming, but she was better at quieting them, pressing her lips together firmly in a smile until he was done. Except at the part where he joked about them having kids, which made her go bug-eyed at him and she burst into laughter. YEAH RIGHT.
She took a moment to gain some composure, straightening herself out and wiping the smile off her face in an attempt to be mature and serious. Didn't go all that well. "So... even if we decide we don't want to be girlfriend-boyfriend some day, we'll promise to still always be besties? 'Cause that's what we'll base our whole relationship on, yeah? Friendship? Always and forever? ... Y'promise to always keep this in mind?" She felt the same way he did, obviously, but she needed to verbalize it, and even extended her pinky finger out to make it official and certain. "Besties first and forever, girlfriend-boyfriend second?"
He would just IGNORE THAT LAUGHTER. Another simple giggle at his fabulous joke would have sufficed though, Sophie Brown. JUST SAYING. Still, he couldn't help but grin a bit at his own expense too, because this was going WELL.
Basically, it seemed like Toby was on entirely the same page as Sophie, and that was a huge relief. He beamed even wider and nodded his head almost in time with his bouncing knees before holding out his own little finger and hooking it around hers.
"Promise," he said simply, blue eyes twinkling even in the dim light.
"Friendship comes first. We're best friends, just like before, and now just happen to also be boyfriend and girlfriend as well."
This had gone perfectly; the racing thoughts in his head had slowed right down and particular anxieties had been quelled by this simple act of communication. Once again, everything felt right. Well, except the fact that he was kinda hungry, and they were right by the Great Hall. Lunch was next on the agenda, yup.
